REVIEW: Ham & Gruyere Tart and Creme Brulee Croissant Join Gaston’s Tavern Menu

Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom has two new breakfast items: the Ham and Gruyère Tart and the Crème Brûlée Croissant. We visited Magic Kingdom to review them both.

Gaston’s Tavern

Exterior of Gaston's Tavern features rustic architecture with timber and stone elements, green window shutters, and a sign above the entrance. The door is open, welcoming visitors inside.

Gaston’s Tavern is located in Fantasyland, next to Be Our Guest Restaurant.

Menu board displaying items including a stein of frozen apple juice for $13.99, ham and cheese tart for $9.49, cinnamon roll for $6.79, creme brulee croissant for $6.79, and "The Grey Stuff" cupcake for $6.19.

The tart and croissant join the warm cinnamon roll, Grey Stuff Cupcake, and LeFou’s Brew. These items are available all day.

Ham and Gruyère Tart – $9.49

Crispy Croissant Dough topped with Ham and Gruyère served with a Bag of Chips

We enjoyed this. It’s substantial yet light. The dough is crispy and won’t weigh you down like heavier bread might, so it works on a hot day. We think picky eaters would like this because it’s just ham and melted cheese on bread. The Gruyère is not too strong. We don’t think it will turn off people who don’t like a strong cheese taste.

Our only complaint is that the ham is so thinly sliced. That helps keep it light but we would like a little more. Still, this is a snack we would get again if we find ourselves hungry in this area of the park.

Crème Brûlée Croissant – $5.29

Crispy Croissant Dough filled with Vanilla Bean Custard

A hand holds a pastry on a plate in front of a rustic building with a sign that reads "Gaston's.

This tastes exactly how you think it would. It’s a pastry with vanilla cream inside. There’s nothing special about it but it tastes how it should. Again, a picky eater or kid would probably enjoy it.

A golden-brown pastry on a black plate rests on a speckled tabletop next to a purple chair.

Our big issue is that it’s so messy, no matter how you eat it. If you hold it in your hands, you’ll get sticky. If you try to use a knife and fork, the filling will gush out. The bottom layer of the pastry was also tough to cut through with the plastic knife.

A hand holds a partially eaten flaky pastry revealing a creamy filling. The background shows some blurred outdoor structures and people.

We think it might have been better to have a standard croissant with the filling as a dip on the side. It would be neater and also easier to share. We probably won’t get it again just because of the messiness.
