REVIEW: Is This Classic Disney Treat Still Worth Your Money?

Have we been sleeping on a classic Disney snack?

Disneyland

Disneyland opened in 1955 and has since served as the blueprint for the ultimate theme park experience. With innovative attractions, unforgettable theming, and excellent food, Disneyland remains a true juggernaut in the industry. Speaking of excellent food, The Happiest Place on Earth certainly doesn’t lack any — but has one classic Disneyland treat been unjustly forgotten?

While it has likely been passed in popularity by the turkey leg, popcorn, and churros, the Disneyland Chimichanga is still an iconic Disneyland snack. While it’s harder to find these days, we headed over to Ship to Shore Marketplace to see if this Tex-Mex treat is still a worthy Disneyland snack!

Chimichanga

While they aren’t sold in as many locations these days as decades prior, you can find them at Ship to Shore Marketplace — the bigger quick service stand over in Frontierland next to Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia.  In addition to Chimichangas, this spot also serves Jumbo Turkey Legs and Corn on the Cob among other perfect for on-the-go snacks.

The Chimichanga costs $6.99 and also comes in a Breakfast Chimichanga variant for the same price. The breakfast version is sold until 11AM daily or until supplies run out.

The Chimichanga comes wrapped in foil and is super easy to eat both sitting down and walking around the park. The foil also helps keep it warmer for longer.

Enjoy it on the go!

As for the Chimichanga itself, this snack is basically a deep-fried burrito with a beans and beef mix.

A nice, golden crisp

The deep-fried tortilla is the star here and elevates it from just a regular burrito. Ours was perfectly crispy, with a great crunch on the outside and a soft interior. It’s thick enough to hold everything together, but isn’t tough so eating it is a breeze.

Inside of the Chimichanga

The beef and beans mix inside is pretty thick, making this a surprisingly filling treat. With that said, you’ll mostly get the flavor of beans, so if you’re looking for something beefier, we recommend going to the nearby Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante instead. Still, if you love a good bean burrito, the Chimichanga is definitely worth a try.

Chimichangas are (famously) the favorite food of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe character Deadpool, and we can definitely see why! It’s a super simple snack, but incredibly filling, reliably tasty, and quintessentially Disneyland.
