Universal has been dreaming BIG recently, and working to turn those dreams into a reality.
First, we saw Universal open Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood. We also saw a NEW DreamWorks land just open at Universal Studios Florida. Of course, we can’t talk about BIG dreams without mentioning Epic Universe, Universal Orlando’s ambitious third theme park. But Universal is also working on a big project ACROSS the pond and recently revealed a plan to build a theme park in the U.K.
According to Sky News, Universal has bought land near Bedford, U.K. to build what will become the largest theme park in Europe, as well as a new 500-room hotel and dining area. The new project is expected to generate nearly $50 billion pounds (about $63 billion U.S. dollars) in economic benefits for the entire country. The project was also bring in 20,000 jobs during the park’s construction and create 8,000 new jobs once complete.
Universal has bought almost 500 acres of land for the new park, with an option to buy an additional 60 acres. The company projects it would take around six years to build the new park.
“I can tell you it’s going to be a world-class park with all experiences that people will love based upon the most popular films, video games and stories that people have enjoyed for decades,” said Page Thompson, Universal’s president in charge of new ventures.
This would be Universal’s sixth theme park, which includes parks all over the world, including the U.S., Japan, China, and Singapore. The new park is set to become bigger than Europe’s current biggest theme park, Disneyland Paris in France.
Although it’s too early to know what kind of rides or experiences Universal is planning for the new park, the first phase of construction will consist of a theme park and a 50o-room hotel, as well as a dining area for people to come to if they don’t have a theme park ticket, similar to CityWalk at Universal Orlando.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates about this new park, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
