Some of these may be great pieces of advice, ones that we would give you! Others may be terrible, but the most important thing to remember is that everyone’s advice is based on what they have personally experienced (or heard secondhand) and everyone’s different. This also means that everyone’s preferences for their vacations are different. Even though we knew that this decision we made in Disney World was the right one, it certainly didn’t feel like it!

One of our team members traveled to Disney World recently when there just so happened to be a MASSIVE heat wave in Orlando during that time. Orlando is always hot during the summer, but this was a day with an excessive heat warning.

Tower of Terror

She was a few days into her vacation and was REALLY feeling it, and honestly didn’t want to get up for rope drop in Magic Kingdom that day. Plus, she really wasn’t looking forward to walking around in such intense heat. So she made an interesting decision — to hang around her hotel for majority of the day, and didn’t go into Magic Kingdom until 4PM!

This way, the heat of the day was pretty much over and she still had multiple hours until the park closed. However, she said she felt VERY strange sitting around her hotel all day when she knew she was “wasting” precious park time. She knew, deep down though, that she would be miserable in the parks for hours, and likely would need to take breaks inside often to beat the heat.

She was able to complete everything she wanted to during her day, and was a little bit cooler while doing it. It worked out very well for her trip, so this is our reminder to you that even if something doesn’t feel like the normal choice, if it works for you or your family, go for it!

Disney World heat is NO joke and it’s seriously important to do whatever needed to keep yourselves cool, hydrated, and still having a fun time on vacation. If that means you spend a resort day at the pool and head into the parks that evening, go for it! We’ve seen far too many guests not pay attention to what their body is telling them and succumb to heat exhaustion that takes them out for the rest of the day.
