Cast Members are giving Disneyland Resort guests union buttons featuring Mickey Mouse’s raised fist and asking them to sign a petition.
Disneyland Cast Members Giving Guests Buttons
The Cast Members are members of the Master Services Council (MSC), a coalition of four unions representing 13,000 Disneyland employees, including ride operators, custodians, candy makers, costumers, entrance employees, parking attendants, and merchandise cast.
In June, MSC filed charges against Disneyland for unfair labor practices when the company allegedly disciplined, intimidated, and surveilled Cast Members who wore the buttons at work.
On Monday, July 1, union Cast Members handed out the buttons to guests at the Disneyland Resort entrance at the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Disney Way. The Cast Members wore their costumes and asked guests to sign a petition supporting their contract negotiations.
The contract for the Disneyland Park employees expired on June 16. The contract for Disney California Adventure expires on September 30. Negotiations began in April and MSC is seeking higher wages for the Cast Members.
Disneyland Resort performers recently voted to unionize and are also seeking higher pay.
