In a post on Instagram, Disney Workers Rising announced that 99% of cast members represented by the union voted ‘YES’ to an unfair labor practices strike authorization. The vote does not mean that Cast Members are currently on strike, only that they have the ability to if, as according to the group, “Disney continues to silence cast members and prevent us from getting the contract we deserve.”

Disney Workers Rising says that a a strike is “always a last resort” and that they plan to continue negotiations with Disney on Monday and Tuesday in an attempt to come to an agreement.

Union representatives later clarify in the post that Cast Members should not walk out until the union notifies them to do so, as walking out before the start of an official strike could lead to cast members being “disciplined and/or fired.”

A group of people gathered for a protest. Some hold signs, including one reading "THINKFALLS, DECENT WAGE, ALL SHADY WAIT TIME TOO LONG" and another reading "Before you expand Disneyland, how about you expand MY paycheck.

On Wednesday, July 17, the 69th anniversary of Disneyland, Cast members represented by the union gathered together near the entrance of the Disneyland Resort and held a rally in support of a “fair contract.”

Disneyland Workers Rising first entered negotiations with Disney on April 24 of this year, demanding “fair wages, a fair attendance policy, seniority increases and safe parks for cast members and guests.” The union has still not reached an agreement with Disney at this time and it is unknown when or if an official strike will begin.
