FULL GUIDE to Lightning Lane Multi Pass & Single Pass at Walt Disney World

As of July 24, 2024, Disney Genie+ is now Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Individual Lightning Lane is Lightning Lane Single Pass. The rebrand is in effect at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, but only the latter’s system has changed, now allowing guests to purchase the offerings in advance. The updates turn the Lightning Lane system into something resembling the old FastPass+, although Lightning Lane is available at a cost while FastPass+ was free.

What is Disney Genie?

Disney Genie service logo

The name Genie+ is retired but Disney Genie remains. Disney Genie is a free tool that has been available through the Walt Disney World My Disney Experience app since October 2021. Through Disney Genie, guests can pick preferences for their theme park day. The app will then give them suggestions on when and where to go via the Tip Board. This service has not changed with the new updates. Read our original Disney Genie guide.

What is Lightning Lane?

Lightning Lane is the name given to the faster queue of a Disney attraction. These queues are designed to have lower waits, allowing guests to “skip the line” by restricting and staggering when they can enter the line throughout the day. Most, but not all, Walt Disney World attractions now have a Lightning Lane. Some character meet and greets also use Lightning Lane. Lightning Lane for shows and special entertainment may allow for priority seating/viewing rather than a shorter wait.

While you can’t make selections for multiple parks in advance with Multi Pass, you can after redeeming your first Lightning Lane. As you saw above, you make selections and purchase a Multi Pass for only one park (although you can make Single Pass selections for other parks). There is no additional charge to do this.
