According to eyewitness reports, a lightning strike has caused a fire near the entrance to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and Disney Springs.
Typhoon Lagoon Fire
X user Ice Gator (named for the Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park mascot) posted in reply to a question by user Disney Glimpses that they drove past the fire not long before 4:30 p.m. ET. They added that they believed it was a lightning strike, describing a “Large Smoky smell/aroma and a giant orange glow with a giant cloud of smoke filling the air.”
Around the same time, user Ashley Marie saw the same smoke cloud from a car nearby.
There are already emergency vehicles on site. Officials blocked off part of the road outside the entrance with traffic cones.
We saw a fire truck on its way to the water park.
Severe thunderstorms are currently rolling through Orlando with a flood advisory in place for Orange County until at least 6:15 p.m. Storms are forecasted to continue through 8 p.m.
Coincidentally, today (July 28) is National Water Park Day.
