Today at San Diego Comic Con Disney and the BBC jointly announced a brand new Doctor Who spinoff series starring Russel Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw titled ‘The War Between the Land and Sea’ is coming to Disney+ and the BBC One.

New Doctor Who Series

This new series created by Doctor Who Showrunner and Executive Producer Russell T Davies sees newcomers Tovey and Mbatha-Raw join Doctor Who alumni Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient who will be reprising their roles as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Ibrahim respectively.

The official synopsis reads: “When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.”

Filming on the series will begin next month, but it is unknown at this time when it is set to release.

Disney acquired the streaming rights to Doctor Who in the United States and other parts of the world back in 2022. The series premiered on Disney+ in late 2023 with three specials celebrating the 60th anniversary of the series.
