Quite a few things are currently closed in Magic Kingdom!
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just officially opened, but Country Bear Jamboree is still down for refurbishment. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade just closed permanently to become a new Disney Vacation Club lounge, and Tortuga Tavern is now seasonally closed in Adventureland. Seems like a long list, right? Well, now we’re adding another offering to that group.
Peter Pan’s Flight is now officially closed for a long refurbishment in Fantasyland. As of July 8th, the ride is temporarily unavailable and will remain closed through August 20th, 2024. This means you’ll have to wait until August 21st to ride again!
This ride tends to be one of Disney World’s more popular options, with a consistently long wait time and an in-demand Lightning Lane. However, the ride also has a lower hourly capacity, so it loads pretty slowly, which means the line moves slowly.
Thankfully, a few years back, Disney updated the ride with an interactive queue. Now, waiting in line for Peter Pan’s Flight is a little more bearable as you walk through the Darling family’s house and interact with Tinker Bell!
When we spoke to a nearby Cast Member at Peter Pan’s Flight the morning of its closure, we were told that the ride system was built first, and then Disney built the building around it, which makes it a challenge to repair and refurbish. With those difficulties, the ride could possibly take longer than usual to update, or the refurbishment could be minimal and it could reopen early. We’ll be waiting to see if either of those situations comes to pass!
While Peter Pan’s Flight is closed, there are still plenty of rides to check out in Magic Kingdom, including the NEW Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (it was probably pretty smart of Disney to open that ride before closing a major one for refurbishment). The park as a whole is in the middle of some pretty big changes these days.
With a new Country Bear Jamboree show opening soon, a new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge coming to Adventureland, a new Disney Vacation Club lounge coming to Frontierland, and a major expansion planned for “beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” in the future, Magic Kingdom’s about to look totally different. Disney World’s original park also tends to be its busiest, so it’s no surprise that the company is investing in it to add more space and more offerings.
