On a recent visit to Disney’s Boardwalk, we noticed numerous updates to the exterior of The Cake Bake Shop, as construction workers actively worked on the building.
The Cake Bake Shop
The Cake Bake Shop is finally starting to look like the concept art promised to us when the restaurant and bakery were originally announced. In our last update, we noted the installation of plywood and piping shortly after the location’s signs were installed. However, the exterior of the building was still mostly gray and looked nothing like the building in the above concept art.
Now, paneling has been added and painted white around the majority of the structure. New stylized framing has been installed above most of the windows and doors. In the above photo, one strip of the framing above the windows at the top of the building is still brown, while the other sections have been painted white. Blue painter’s tape is present around all windows, suggesting another coat of paint may be applied soon.
The Cake Bake Shop sign above the bakery entrance is now framed on three sides by brown and white paneling. Based on the concept art, these brown panels will likely be painted white before construction is completed. We expect the top to remain frameless so that lights can be installed in the holes that are already there.
Workers were actively working on stylized paneling around the windows near the top of the building. Above them, the very top of the building has also been painted white, and rectangular frames have been added to each exterior wall.
The first floor of the building has received major updates. During our last update, the structure was still gray, and the area on the underside of the roof was completely exposed, revealing numerous wooden beams. Those beams have been covered and that section as well as the trim around the roof have been painted white.
The area around the “The Cake Bake Shop” sign above the restaurant entrance has also been painted white. Two stylized panels are expected to be added here, one to the left of the sign and one to the right. These will be similar to the ones around the sign above the bakery.
The area above the roof between the restaurant and bakery has also been painted white and stylized paneling has been added.
While the building has officially taken shape and details are being added around the structure, roof installation has yet to begin. Based on the concept art, the roof will be dark to accentuate the white building its covers. We don’t expect the lights to be added until the dining location is nearly ready to open.
We still do not have an official opening date for The Cake Bake Shop. The bakery and restaurant were supposed to open in 2023 but were delayed to 2024. Owner and founder Gwendolyn Rogers began hiring leadership positions in December of 2023 and other positions in March of 2024.
