According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo brothers are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Russo Brothers Directing ‘Avengers’ 5 & 6
Joe and Anthony Russo are reportedly in early talks with Marvel Studios to direct the next two Avengers movies. “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy was reportedly offered the position first.
The Russos’ careers started with comedy TV shows like “Arrested Development” and “Community.” They jumped to blockbuster films with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” in 2014. They went on to direct “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019). Joe Russo also directed one episode of “Agent Carter” in 2015.
The Russos founded their production company, AGBO, in 2017. They produced the Academy Award-winning “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (2022). They also produced “21 Bridges” (2019) starring late “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman.
“Avengers 5” is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, and doesn’t have a new title yet. It was previously subtitled “The Kang Dynasty,” but things changed after Jonathan Majors, who portrayed Kang, was found guilty of assault and fired by Marvel. “Avengers 6” will be “Avengers: Secret Wars,” and is set for release on May 7, 2027.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton was previously attached to direct the fifth Avengers film but left to focus on Marvel’s “Wonder Man” miniseries.
