Dreamworks Animation has announced that a new “Shrek” film, currently titled “Shrek 5,” is set for a 2026 release.
‘Shrek 5’ Announced
The news was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the official DreamWorks Animation account. The video in the post shows a green number 5 with Shrek’s ears wiggling and bouncing around the frame as “All Star” by Smash Mouth plays. The phrase “The All-Star Returns” then appears onscreen with the film’s release date.
Set to release on July 1, 2026, “Shrek 5” will see Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz returning to their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Princess Fiona. The film releases just two weeks before Disney’s live-action ” Moana ” retelling on July 10, and a month after Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” on June 19.
The first “Shrek” film hit theaters on April 22, 2001, achieving great success and spawning multiple sequels, holiday specials, a now-closed theme park attraction and a newly-opened theme park land, and a “Puss in Boots” spin-off series and films.
Shrek and friends have a new home at Universal Studios Florida within DreamWorks Land, which opened earlier this year. Read our honest review.
