Sparks Fly in ‘Fantasmic!’ Firework Malfunction at Disneyland

A TikTok video depicted a dangerous firework malfunction during last night’s performance of “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland Park.

‘Fantasmic!’ Firework Malfunction at Disneyland

A nighttime scene of Fantasmic! at Disneyland featuring pyrotechnics near a wooden facade with blue and purple lighting.

The video posted by TikTok user @bibbidibobbidibalyson shows fireworks shooting out of Mickey’s hands long before they’re supposed to. Mickey was just starting to make his way to the stairs when fireworks started shooting out of his hands, surrounding his body in sparks. The performer then ran to the top of the stairs and extended their arms as quickly as possible to keep the sparks away from them.

During this section of the show, the fireworks are not supposed to go off until Mickey gets to the top of the stairs, takes his place in the middle of the stage, and extends his arms. By the time Mickey hit his mark, the fireworks had already expired. There have not been any reported injuries from last night’s performance.

This is not the first time that “Fantasmic!” has had pyro problems at Disneyland. In 2023, the Maleficent dragon caught fire leading to a one-year closure of the beloved nighttime spectacular. That incident also led to six Disneyland Cast Members being treated for smoke inhalation. When the show returned in May, the climactic final battle no longer featured the dragon.

There has been no announcement as to whether any changes will come to the show as a result of this particular malfunction. The “Fantasmic!” webpage shows the standard 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. showtimes for tonight.
