During the Q3 2024 earnings report Q&A call this morning for The Walt Disney Company, Disney shared that anti-password sharing measures for Disney+ would roll out later this year.

Disney+ Password Sharing Crackdown Coming Soon

When asked during the Q&A segment, Senior Executive Vice President and CFO Hugh Johnston said that the crackdown on password sharing for Disney+ would roll out in September 2024.

CEO Bob Iger had previously said in the Q1 2024 earnings call that the “impact of their limits on password-sharing won’t be felt until 2025.”

The initial anti-password sharing policies were first announced during the Q3 2023 earnings call. Through this plan, Disney+ accounts suspected of sharing outside of their household will be offered “new capabilities to allow their borrowers to start their own subscriptions.”

Later this year, Disney+ account holders who want to allow access to users outside of their household will be able to add these individuals to their plan for a fee.

Disney’s streaming business overall achieved profitability for the first time this quarter, with a total revenue of $6.4 billion and a profit of $47 million. Despite that, Disney+ and Hulu lost money, while ESPN+ turned a profit.
