Disney+ has announced a few new updates today, namely that pricing for both its ad-supported and ad-free tiers will be going up later this fall.
Disney+ Price Increase
With a “growing offering” coming to the streaming service, Disney is increasing the subscription price for the ad-supported and no ads tiers.
Starting October 17, 2024, pricing for Disney+, as well as Hulu, ESPN+, Hulu + Live TV, and bundle options will be the following:
- Disney+
- With Ads – $9.99 (Monthly)
- No Ads – $15.99 (Monthly) / $159.99 (Annual)
- Hulu
- With Ads – $9.99 (Monthly) / $99.99 (Annual)
- No Ads – $18.99 (Monthly)
- ESPN+
- With Ads – $11.99 (Monthly) / $119.99 (Annual)
- Bundle Offerings
- Duo Basic: Disney+ (With Ads), Hulu (With Ads) – $10.99 (Monthly)
- Duo Premium: Disney+ (No Ads), Hulu (No Ads) (No Change) – $19.99 (Monthly)
- Hulu + Live TV
- With Ads – $82.99 (Monthly)
- No Ads – $95.99 (Monthly)
This increase means that the pricing for the Basic subscription will increase from $7.99 per month to $9.99 per month, a difference of $2. The Premium plan will increase from $13.99 per month to $15.99 per month, another $2 increase.
New Playlists Feature Announced
Also announced today, Disney is introducing continuous playlists to its core subscription on-demand service in the U.S. starting September 4. This new feature offers subscribers both live and on-demand streaming options, with further expansions planned throughout the year. This is one of the factors involved in the reason for the price increase.
“Playlists are the latest example of how we’re providing the best value and experience for our subscribers every time they open Disney+,” Alisa Bowen, President, Disney+, said. “Whether it’s news, kids’ content, popular genres, hit TV shows, or blockbuster films, there will be something for everyone in a lean-back viewing experience based on seasonality and interest.”
