Disney World Cast Member Raising Money for Brain Tumor Treatment

A Walt Disney World Cast Member is raising money for the treatment of a brain tumor that has caused her to lose much of her sight.

A person with braids, glasses, and a tie-dye shirt stands next to a railing overlooking a canyon. Beside them is a brain MRI image with a section circled in blue.

Sarah Penrod, who works in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, is 31 years old. Penrod began to lose her sight in the middle of July. She has lost her right visual field in both eyes and the middle of her left eye. As she describes on her GoFundMe page, “I can’t see much and what I can see is only out of the left side of my right eye. I can’t read with my left eye. Everything else is extremely grey and blurry. So as you can imagine, it has been very difficult.”

Penrod needs to get more MRIs — only two have been fully covered by insurance.

“I feel so much deep-rooted shame in asking for help financially but I’ve been poked and prodded and am currently sitting in a hospital bed with nothing to lose,” Penrod wrote. “Even just a penny will be appreciated and will cover both medical bills and travel expenses down to Miami.”

“I am hopeful this will be treated and my vision will return and I’ll be able to go back to enjoying all the things in my life,” she continued, “seeing my loved ones’ whole entire face (instead of just one side), being able to drive, read a book, go to a job that I love, and be able to put this whole thing behind me.”

As of publication, Penrod has raised $7,805 of her $10,000 goal. Donate on GoFundMe.
