Disney announced the official title of the “Freaky Friday” sequel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, alongside a first look at the film.
The sequel will be called “Freakier Friday.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as mother Tess and daughter Anna from the 2003 film. Lohan’s character, Anna, is now a mom.
Production began in June and “Freakier Friday” will be in theaters next year. Images shown at D23 include Curtis and Lohan in front of a crystal ball, screaming, and in a car.
The sequel was officially confirmed in March. It’s directed by Nisha Ganatra. It’s produced by Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr. Jordan Weiss reportedly wrote the screenplay.
“Freaky Friday” (2003) was the third adaptation of a 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers. The first, also produced by Disney, was “Freaky Friday” (1976). It was followed by two sequels: “Summer Switch” (1984) and “A Billion for Boris” (1985). “Disney’s Freaky Friday” (1995) then aired on ABC for “The Wonderful World of Disney.” The most recent adaptation was the musical “Freaky Friday,” a Disney Channel Original Movie that premiered in 2018. It was based on Disney Theatrical Productions’ 2016 stage musical.
