Insidious: The Further is one of ten houses at Halloween Horror Nights 33, and we step into the realm of spirits and demons to see if we can survive.
House
Don’t get trapped in The Further as terrifying demons try to ensnare you. Enter the Red-Faced Demon’s lair behind The Red Door. And try to keep away from KeyFace, so he can’t lock up your spirit.
Backstory
Insidious: The Further is based on the “Insidious” film franchise. The Further is a purgatory-esque realm full of the souls of the dead. Guests enter through The Red Door into The Further, the realm of the Red-faced Demon, who was the main entity other than the Bride in Black for most of the franchise. KeyFace is the demon who tormented the psychic/paranormal investigator Elise Rainier in her youth, as depicted in 2018’s “Insidious: The Last Key.” Elise is not the main character of the franchise, but she is the character who returns in each film, a thread tying all the demonic encounters together.
Review of Insidious: The Further
We’ll be upfront about this: Insidious: The Further is good. Really good.
This haunted house is jam-packed with so many good scares. Our group got scared quite a few times when going through this house, and we had a ball watching it happen.
There is a particularly good moment that we won’t spoil involving the Bride in Black. It’s creative and effective and we think you’ll appreciate it.
The back half of the house gets a little repetitive for our tastes with specific character scares, but it makes up for it with how the house plays into the realm of The Further. All the weird, forced perspective set pieces and void spaces filled with random static figures work well in this setting. Insidious: The Further does a good job of overwhelming you, so when something finally does jump out at you, it really gets you.
We also appreciated the giant red door at the entrance to the house and thought the masks and other costume design aspects were good.
Our group was divided on the rating between a 6 and a 5, but we’ll go with a 5 here, as it was better than expected but still not mind-blowing.
Rating out of 7: 5
