As part of the World Princess Week celebrations through August 31, a new Aurora Tart has debuted at Disney’s Riviera Resort.
The tart can be found at Le Petit Cafe, a quick-service patisserie in the main lobby area of the resort.
Make it Pink, Make it Blue Aurora Tart – $7.29
Diplomat Cream, Raspberry Mousse, Fresh Berries, White Chocolate Crown
The tart uses a “citric acid color-changing solution,” which we confirmed with Cast Members is plain lemon juice.
The tart is filled with diplomat cream and topped with raspberry mousse and fresh berries. The shiny golden crown, shaped like Aurora’s, is made of white chocolate.
This is a fun and well-balanced marriage of very different flavors. The diplomat cream is very sweet, though less so than whipped cream. It pairs perfectly with the raspberry on the bottom layer, as well as the mousse itself.
Ours had strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. A heart-shaped pipette full of lemon juice is tucked behind the crown.
The raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries on top are fresh and lend texture to an otherwise smooth dish.
When the lemon juice is squeezed onto the mousse, it turns from blue to pink, like Aurora’s gown when the Fairy Godmothers are arguing over the best color.
We need to revisit the raspberry mousse because this is what might be most controversial. Before adding the citric acid color-changing solution to the mousse, it’s very much as you would expect and typical for a raspberry mousse — sweet but not overpowering. When we squeezed the pipette of lemon juice on the mousse, we were surprised at how overpowering the tartness was. However, as citrus fans, we weren’t disappointed.
The base of the tart was unexciting; not bad, just generic. It was a flaky pie-style crust that offered nothing other than a vehicle for the rest of the dish.
We love fruit tarts and this was a pretty good option. We think kids especially will love this as the flavors are fairly straightforward and the color-changing effect is fun.
