Guests visiting Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can stop by Kona Island or Capt. Cook’s for the returning Moana Mini Cake to celebrate World Princess Week 2024. It will be available through August 31.
Moana Mini Cake – $7.49
Vanilla Cake filled with Mango Mousse and covered in a wave of Glaçage, Buttercream, Fondant, and White Chocolate Décor
The Moana Mini Cake uses fondant, buttercream, and white chocolate to make it look like Moana is standing atop a waterfall.
The decor is held up by buttercream atop the fondant. The cake itself is plain vanilla of decent quality, but the frosting leans heavily into the butter over the cream in flavor and texture. The mango mousse is good but too subtle; we wish it was stronger to make the flavor profile here more interesting. The pearls give a nice crunch but are few and far between.
There’s a lot of potential here, but it lacks balance. If the buttercream were better balanced, if the cake and mousse were better balanced, if the texture profile was… (you get the point). Still, it’s cute, and kids or picky eaters may appreciate the subtler flavors.
If you’re looking for a fun Moana treat for World Princess Week, this isn’t a bad choice. If you’re looking for something more adventurous, we recommend the Pineapple Cupcake from Capt. Cook’s instead (it has DOLE Whip pineapple cheesecake filling).
