NEWS! Close-Up Look At NEW Monsters Inc. Coaster Announced for Disney World!

For the first time ever, Disney has announced a brand-new Monsters, Inc-themed land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Hollywood Studios

At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney dropped some MAJOR park news on us. They announced several new lands for Disney World, new nighttime entertainment, new rides, new shows, and so much more! There was a lot to take in at the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase on August 10th. But the new Monsters, Inc. Land that was announced certainly intrigued us, especially the first-ever suspended roller coaster in a Disney park!

The new Monsters, Inc. Land will take humans to Monstropolis for the first time ever! Here the monsters are looking for your help. They need our laughs to power the city and keep things working.

We’ll get to roam around the city and even visit the plant that is in charge of collecting your screams…ah, laughs. Monsters, Inc. welcomes you to the floor!

A new land themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Monsters, Inc.” is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Taking place after the events of the film, Monstropolis needs humans’ laughter to power the city.

Inside the Monsters, Inc. plant, you’ll find the first-ever suspended roller coaster in a Disney park. A suspended roller-coaster is one where you sit in your seat but your legs dangle off the ground. The seat is attached to the track above your head instead of under your seat.

You can even ride on a door like Mike and Sully in the iconic scene from the film with Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster.

When sharing this exciting news, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

It sounds like it’s going to be tons of fun! We even got to see a 3-D model of the new ride at the D23 event. The model looks really cool! You can how you’ll be inside the factory and whipping and twisting through the area holding all the doors to the human world.

One concern people do have is that they think it looks like it might be kind of short for a roller coaster. However, you can see in the model that the track loops a BUNCH of times in and out, back and forth through the door-holding area. It looks really neat!

Since we don’t know how long this ride will last yet, here are some examples of other ride times in Disney World.

Even some of the most exciting rides in Disney World are three minutes or under, so this new roller coaster will likely live up to the hype!

We’ve waited 23 years for this ride announcement, and we’re super excited to finally get to ride on a door through Monsters, Inc! At this time, Disney has yet to announce where in Hollywood Studios this new land will go, so we’ll be watching for more details.
