NEWS: Disneyland Will Update Popular Ride to “Remove Insensitive Racial Stereotypes”

From time to time, we see Disney rides get updates!

Disneyland

Many times, rides will close for refurbishment and just get general touch-ups and technology updates, but sometimes Disney takes that chance to change some scenes. (We saw this happen with rides like Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean in the past!) Recently, Disney World made some interesting modifications to its version of Peter Pan’s Flight, and now it looks like that change will come to the West Coast as well.

Not too long ago, Peter Pan’s Flight reopened in Magic Kingdom after a brief closure. During that closure, Disney took the time to update the Tiger Lily scene on the ride to make it more up-to-date with modern depictions.

Now, the Orange County Register reports that a similar update is coming to Peter Pan’s Flight in Disneyland Park. The timeline of this change has not yet been confirmed, but the update is an effort to “remove insensitive racial stereotypes and caricatures of indigenous people.”

We’ll be on the lookout for any information about a closing timeline for the ride in Disneyland, and any information about what the changes will be. Orange County Register notes that the new scene on the West Coast will be similar, but Disney hasn’t yet stated if it will be the exact same as the new Magic Kingdom one.

As we mentioned above, this won’t be the first time Disney has updated rides to fit more with the times. Insensitive scenes were removed from Pirates of the Caribbean on both coasts several years ago, and after the pandemic, Disney took the time to change some depictions in Jungle Cruise as well.
