Face Giant Death Angels in A Quiet Place at Halloween Horror Nights 33

If the Death Angels in the “A Quiet Place” house were real, we’d all be dead right now. Seriously, y’all screamed that much just from being jumpscared by a big puppet? (I jest. They were a little scary.)

Step into the world of A Quiet Place, a post-apocalyptic wasteland overrun by aliens that want to eat you.

A Quiet Place House

Silence your screams if you want to survive the terrifying, post-apocalyptic world. Like the Abbott family, you must keep quiet as you travel from the farmhouse to the woods, to the foundry. As soon as you make a sound, monstrous creatures who can hear the slightest noise, will hunt you down and silence you for good.

Backstory

Two people in a grassy field, one standing and pointing, the other kneeling and looking up. Trees and a silo stand quietly in the background, creating a serene scene in this quiet place.

The house is based on the 2018 film of the same name. It stars John Krasinski (who also directed), Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe as the Abbott family, who are surviving in a world infested by aliens.

After the world was invaded and fell apart, survivors must live silent lives, as the blind and nearly-unkillable Death Angels hunt and kill humans, using super-hearing to detect prey. The film takes place primarily on the Abbott’s farm.

Review of A Quiet Place

Entrance to an amusement park attraction, displaying a "5 minute wait" sign and a "Warning!" notice detailing safety precautions. Two staff members in maroon shirts stand nearby, offering a brief respite from the excitement—a quiet place amidst the bustling park.

This house suffered in the way that many big-name Intellectual Property (IP) houses do. It’s clear that a lot of money was spent here, from the sets to the Death Angels. But that left little behind for any heart.

I wax poetic about this every time I talk about the Behind the Screams tours, but part of what makes HHN houses so good is the attention to detail. The team puts so much effort into making the environments alive that when they can’t, it’s a night-and-day difference. The tiny details that no one sees aren’t just there for the hardcore fans who do lights-on tours. They’re there because, like mise en place in film, your brain may not draw much attention to those little things, but it notices them all the same, lending authenticity to the environment.

There’s not a lot of room here for that. The money and time go to replicating the larger scenes from the film. It leaves the set a little hollow.

That is not to say there aren’t some beautiful scenes here. The Abbott house with the “A Quiet Place” marquee is noteworthy, and there’s an outdoor scene with a boat that is stunning.

The Scareactors are great, as always, but there aren’t enough humans. There are plenty of Death Angels, though, and the puppetry is always phenomenal.

What works the best here is the silence. There’s no background music, and when those audio cues hit, you know there’s going to be a Death Angel, but you don’t know where. When you hear any sound, it starts to fill you with instantaneous dread. It’s an interesting change of pace that suits the story very well.

Overall, this house is worth a visit, but we wouldn’t stand in a long line to do it again.

REVIEW: This EPCOT Festival Booth Is a MUST-VISIT Every Year

If you are reading this post while hungry, BE WARNED. Seriously, we’re not joking! You’re willing to keep reading? Okay, well then — we’ve got some DELICIOUS details to share with you!

The Alps Booth

The 2024 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival has officially begun, and there is a lot to offer. There are plenty of food booths with tasty items, merchandise items to grab (of course), and even concerts to watch. But don’t let it overwhelm you. We’ve got you covered with everything you need to know. And now we’re heading to one spot in particular — The Alps — to give you the FULL scoop! Is it worth a try? Let’s find out!

Menu

Over at The Alps, you’ll find a variety of available items — but mostly cheese! There are a couple of Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese dishes with various accompaniments. Oh, did we mention the Dark Chocolate Fondue dessert?! Yeah, cheese & chocolate make this a must-do food booth!

2024 Menu for The Alps Booth

Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!

Eats

First up, we grabbed the Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Alpine Ham, Baby Potatoes, Cornichons, and a Baguette for $5.75. Note that this is part of Emile’s Fromage Montage cheese crawl this year! In years past, we thought it was super filling and delicious, and we especially loved the tangy crunch from the cornichons. So how does this dish hold up in 2024?

Warm Swiss Cheese Raclette

It’s really hard to go wrong with this, especially if you’re a cheese fan. It’s definitely a strong cheese that some might call stinky, but that doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. It’s best when you eat it right away — before the cheese has had a chance to stiffen up. The potatoes are cooked well and the ham is perfectly smokey and salty. The baguette is soft and really nice when slathered in cheese — but what isn’t?

SO cheesy

The Raclette is a Food & Wine Festival classic for a reason. Hello — it’s CHEESE! This is a hot, savory snack that feels like a warm, comforting hug. It’s a great portion size; thanks to the ham, we felt nice and full after enjoying this dish. Hot tip: pay attention as they’re preparing your food here! The chefs slice the cheese right off the wheel in front of you, so you can see the cheese melt into a gooey pile of deliciousness live and in person.

You can also get the Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Baby Potatoes, Cornichons, and a Baguette (which is the same as the last one, just without the ham) for $5.25.  This dish is also part of Emile’s Fromage Montage cheese crawl, so make sure to get your stamp if you buy this one!

Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese with Baby Potatoes, Cornichons and Baguette

We also grabbed the Dark Chocolate Fondue with Berries, Pound Cake, and Meringues for $6. This is a crowd-pleasing returner from 2023, and we’re SO glad it’s back! It’s a fun little dessert with melted chocolate, pound cake, and berries and when combined with the chocolate everything just tastes SO good.

Dark Chocolate Fondue with berries, pound cake, and meringues

Now let’s check out the drinks!

Drinks

We got the Frozen Rosé, which cost $9. We liked the balance of dry and sweet flavors in this drink last year, and this year we felt the same! If you’ve ever had Frozen Rosé before, this one tastes the same as every other Rosé drink we’ve tried before. It’s easy to drink, light, and sweet. Our reporter who tried this said that it was the best drink she had tried all day.

Frozen Rose

You can also grab the Stiegl Brewery Key Lime Radler from Salzburg, Austria, for $5.75/6oz or $9.75/120z. This is a surprising Key Lime beer. It tends to be more floral than fruity in terms of flavor. This beer is definitely on the sweet side; it’s light and refreshing. It’s not as sweet as cider, so don’t expect to drink a cider-like drink here.

Stiegl Brewery Key Lime Radler

So, is the Alps booth a hit again?

OVERALL

YES! Of course, we’re partial because of all the cheese but that’s what makes this booth such a winner for us year after year. We also really enjoyed the chocolate fondue and when it comes to refreshing drinks on a hot day, the frozen rose is a must.

The Alps Full Spread

That’s it for this booth, but there’s a LOT more where that came from!

I Love Cosmic Ray’s at Disney World, and I Don’t Care Who Knows It

There is one quick-service restaurant that probably gets the most hate, but some of us actually like it, and it is finally time to share our truth.

Cosmic Ray’s

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is a quick-service option in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. Here, you will find quick American bites like cheeseburgers and chicken tenders. We have posted about how our readers say to skip Cosmic Ray’s, but we have four reasons why we actually love to eat at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe.

Cosmic Ray’s is actually a pretty popular place to grab a bite to eat at Magic Kingdom, especially during the lunch rush, and while people may just visit Cosmic Ray’s for the convince of a quick Magic Kingdom meal, some of us actually seek out Cosmic Ray’s for a meal.

Cosmic Ray’s

Cosmic Ray’s is a Good Place to Eat for Picky Eaters

Cosmic Ray’s menu may not be spectacular, but it does offer many safe options for picky eaters. As we mentioned, it serves dishes like cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, and fries. But there are also more elevated options like Greek Salad and a spicy chicken sandwich.

Chicken Tenders at Cosmic Ray’s

If you want to know you are going to like the food, then Cosmic Ray’s is the place to go because you can’t go wrong with the classics that they serve here. Although it may not satisfy super adventurous eaters, everyone in your party should be able to find something to enjoy. There are even plant-based options here as well.

Plant-based Patty Melt

There are Always Mobile Order Windows

Cosmic Ray’s is a very big dining location and can take in a lot of orders both in person and on the My Disney Experience app through Mobile Order.

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe Mobile Order Pick-Up

Since it is a larger dining location, it is usually pretty easy to find a Mobile Order window for Cosmic Ray’s. You may have some issues finding the exact time you want during the lunch rush, but most other times, it is not difficult to find a Mobile Order window.

Mobile Order Pick Up Area at Cosmic Ray’s

This makes Cosmic Ray’s a quick option for ordering, especially if other quick-service Mobile Order windows are already taken. It is not always guaranteed that a Mobile Order slot will be available, but in most cases, you will be able to find one.

Cosmic Ray’s Gets Fun Holiday Offerings

During Party Season and during the holiday season, Cosmic Ray’s is usually home to a few fun specialty items.

Full Spread of Christmas Party Offerings at Cosmic Ray’s

For example, this year at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you can find the Sinister Satay Burger, a Cocoa-rubbed All-Beef Patty with Bacon, Lime Pickles, and Thai Peanut Sauce, and the Halloween Pot Roast Sandwich with Cheddar and Horseradish Mayonnaise served on a Black Bun at Cosmic Ray’s.There are even three other specialty offerings at Cosmic Ray’s during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which makes it a great place to stop to get multiple party exclusive offerings in one place.

REVIEW: Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe DID NOT MISS at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World

2023 Offerings

In past years, at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and sometimes even during regular park operating hours, you can get your sandwich or cheeseburger with a Santa Mickey Mouse toasted on the bun!

Santa Mickey!

You Get Serenaded by the Man Himself, Sonny Eclipse

Alright, this is probably the top reason to dine at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Resident entertainer Sonny Eclipse can serenade you.

It’s Sonny Eclipse!

Sonny Eclipse is an animatronic vocalist who performs throughout the day at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. If we are able to find a table in the dining room where he is located, that is always our go-to spot to see him perform!

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe

While we know that this is a very controversial take, you can’t deny that Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe is a safe, go-to, quick-service location in the Magic Kingdom.

How Did One of Magic Kingdom’s Most HATED Restaurants Get the PRETTIEST New Snack?!

We Got Scared by Wallpaper in The Museum: Deadly Exhibits at Halloween Horror Nights 33

The Museum: Deadly Exhibits is an original house at Halloween Horror Nights 33 in Universal Studios Florida with gorgeous sets and some of the most unique Scareactors. But does it work?

House

A folklore museum’s newest exhibit, The Rotting Stone, has released an evil spirit that decays everything. And it’s coming for you.

UOR USF HHN 33 The Museum Deadly

Backstory

Close-up of an artwork featuring the text "Rotting Love" surrounded by an array of colorful, textured materials.

To butcher a quote from Dr. Ian Malcolm, “Yeah, yeah, but your museum curators were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

The curators at the Museum of International Folklore have found a new relic perfect for their exhibit, “Humanity’s Stories of Death.” Who cares that the Rotting Stone leaves a trail of death and destruction in its wake? It’s probably a coincidence.

(Spoiler alert: It’s not!) When we arrive at the Museum, it’s after hours, and only the staff are left behind. Oh, yeah, and the possessed objects. The Rotting Stone has spread, well, rot throughout the museum, and the building is falling apart. The exhibits are haunted. The staff are dying.

A blue delivery truck with "MF Shipping Worldwide" on its side is parked on a gravel area next to three large wooden crates, reminiscent of eerie shipments for Halloween Horror Nights. The background includes trees and a white building, adding to the suspense.

When guests enter the house, they pass piles of crates and a shipping truck.

The brick facade has more crates stacked outside and a sign for deliveries. One crate is marked as hailing from Egypt — possibly a reference to Slaughter Sinema 2, where the plot of one “movie” involves a crate containing an Egyptian artifact that fell off the back of a museum truck.

There is a poster for The Rotting Stone exhibit.

Review of The Museum: Deadly Exhibits

Two stone statues of women are set against a brick wall. One holds a cluster of grapes while the other holds a bouquet of flowers. The detailed, weathered figures stand as if they belong in a museum, their eerie presence evoking the chilling atmosphere of Halloween Horror Nights.

The Museum: Deadly Exhibits was one of three houses we were able to see during a Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror tour before the event began. It underwent some changes in between that time and now. The biggest change we noticed was that the glowing color of the rot was switched from blue and pink to red and green.

We liked the first colors better. Not only did it kind of play into the lighting across the park for Sinist3r and Surr3eal, we were told the colors were chosen to showcase that the rot was magical in origin, not natural. They intentionally leaned away from the typical colors you associate with rotting flesh and decay.

This house has some really unique Scareactor roles. Some are museum staff and others are possessed objects or artifacts. Some of these didn’t quite land, but others, like the possessed sail and possessed wallpaper, were very effective. The wallpaper scene, in particular, is very disorienting and sets the Scareactor up for a good opportunity.

The ending follows the general theme this year: we, the guests, escape with our lives, but there’s no resolution. The evil lives on, the rot persists, and there’s no indication it will end.

Overall, The Museum: Deadly Exhibits is visually beautiful with unique Scareactors, but lacks a real sense of urgency and offers few chances for a good scare.
