Disney Villains Land Confirmed for Magic Kingdom & More: Daily Recap (8/11/24)

Every Disney Parks announcement from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, a rumor that Tom Sawyer Island and The Rivers of America may be demolished for the Magic Kingdom expansion, and a rumor that the Monsters, Inc. land will replace the Animation building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, not Muppet*Vision 3D — all this and more in today’s daily recap for Sunday, August 11, 2024.

D23 Announcements

Walt Disney World

Magic Kingdom

Rumors indicate that The Rivers of America, Liberty Square Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island may close forever for the Magic Kingdom expansion.
Walt Disney World is expanding the accessible parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), which serves the Magic Kingdom.
We rated and reviewed all the new and returning 2024 Magic Kingdom Halloween treats.
A new ear headband featuring Maleficent in her dragon form has made its way to Magic Kingdom for the Halloween season.

EPCOT

A vibrant fireworks display lighting up the night sky over a body of water, with bright trails and bursts of light reflecting on the surface below, reminiscent of Disney Parks' dazzling evening spectacles.

Executive creative director of Disney Live Entertainment, Steve Davison, announced that more drones are coming to Disney Parks. He also stated that “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” was designed to be updated.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Multiple sources report that the “Monster’s, Inc.” land will replace the Animation building, which currently houses Star Wars Launch Bay.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A vibrant peacock sculpture and a framed artwork of a bright, lit-up pavilion are displayed against a backdrop of rich red curtains. The sign above the artwork reads "Disney's Animal Kingdom," enhancing the wonder with hints of Pueblo Esperanza's cultural charm.

At D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced that new interactive shoulder Banshees with upgraded tech and features will be coming to Pandora – The World of Avatar in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Disney has revealed the first animal that will be featured on the carousel in Pueblo Esperanza, a new Tropical Americas land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Some of the quick breakfast options of Disney’s Animal Kingdom have moved around and changed, so we decided to review them on a recent morning visit to the park.

Disneyland Resort

During the “Magic Happens” Parade at Disneyland, the “Frozen” float crashed into a curb, exposing one of its wheels.

Disneyland Park at Disneyland Paris will get a brand new nighttime spectacular in January 2025.

The new “Lion King”-inspired Pride Lands have been added to the Disney Adventure World model on display at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Disney Cruise Line

An elaborate Day of the Dead altar decorated with marigold flowers, candles, framed photos, sugar skulls, and various offerings like fruits and pan de muerto serves as a beautiful daily recap of memories and tributes to loved ones.

A video at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event provides a first look at an ofrenda that will be on display in Plaza de Coco, a “Coco”-themed restaurant on Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Treasure.

Entertainment and Media

Universal Studios
