NEW Project Details Revealed at Imagineering: Behind the Dreams Pavilion

With so many exciting announcements shared during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase, Disney Imagineers couldn’t miss an opportunity to give our biggest fans a closer look at what we’re working on. This morning, guests attending D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event can visit the show floor to see new additions to the Imagineering: Behind The Dreams pavilion.

Here’s a look at some of the most anticipated projects in development.

Welcome to Pueblo Esperanza

A new adventure awaits at Pueblo Esperanza at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a new addition themed around Tropical Americas, the area just north and south of the equator in the Western Hemisphere — from the northern part of South America stretching up into Central America. This exciting location gives Imagineers so much to play with when bringing timeless stories to life, like Indiana Jones exploring a recently excavated, ancient Maya temple or magical Casita of the Madrigal family from Walt Disney Animation Studios Oscar award-winning film “Encanto.”

Imagineers created a model of Casita, including a magical candle and nods to the home’s vibrant personality with fluttering shutters.

Model of Casita

To ensure the authenticity of the Tropical Americas, Imagineers conducted numerous research trips, drawing inspiration from various places, including Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, to authentically reflect the region’s people, architecture, and more. Their efforts are reflected in a stunning model of the land, featuring a large fountain in the center where the villagers like to gather and tell stories. The model even features a special lighting effect around the fountain!

Additionally, a woodcarver has created a giant working carousel featuring his favorite animals from Disney stories like Kevin from the Pixar Animation Studios film “Up,” who’s displayed showcasing the woodcarver’s expert craftmanship. It’s a new take on a classic attraction that young families are going to love!

First Suspended Coaster in a Disney park

During D23 Event 2024, Josh D’Amaro revealed plans to build a Monsters, Inc.-inspired area, including an attraction that lets you take a look inside the factory from the Pixar film. To ideate the layout of the attraction, the project team created a study model of the attraction, enabling them to fine-tune every detail.

Study model of suspended coaster attraction

If you’ve ever dreamed of riding through the door vault, as Sulley and Mike did in the film, this is what you’ve been waiting for! As the first suspended coaster in a Disney park, this attraction will put you right in the middle of the action and have you roaring with laughter.

Ideating New “Avatar” Experiences

We’re venturing further into Pandora with a new destination at Disney California Adventure. Within the pavilion, Imagineers have created a “working desk” display, showcasing the inspiration and creative tools the project team is using to brainstorm future developments.

Bringing the Pride Lands to Disneyland Paris

Guests at Disneyland Paris will get to experience the classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Lion King” unlike ever before! Dedicated to the characters and stories from the film, Pride Lands, a new park area in Disney Adventure World will include themed dining, shopping, and the opportunity to meet some favorite characters, along with a new attraction.

Model of Pride Lands at Disneyland Paris

Imagineers have created a model that beautifully showcases both the area’s development and the new attraction. The level of detail in this model is truly breathtaking! Eagle-eyed fans may notice some familiar markings on rocks throughout the model.

These new additions to “Imagineering: Behind the Dreams” are just a glimpse of the work Imagineers are doing!

As Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro said, “At Disney Experiences, Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places. And we have Imagineers in place right now all around the world because everything we’re going to share with you is in active development. Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving. I just want to be clear about this: We are doing everything you’re going to hear tonight.”

The future is bright for Disney Experiences! Follow along every step of the way on the Disney Parks Blog and get a behind-the-scenes peek at what we’re dreaming up by following Imagineering on Instagram. We can’t wait to share more with you!

Halloween Horror Nights 33 Hints Added to Sahara Traders in Universal Studios Florida

New props in Sahara Traders, the Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride exit gift shop, tease the Halloween Horror Nights 33 Tribute Store and scare zones.

Halloween Horror Nights 33 Hints in Sahara Traders

A collection of antique crates, statues, and vintage posters from Sahara Traders, including a large coffin and mythological artifacts, is displayed in a dark room at Universal Studios Florida. People are casually observing the setup, adding to the eerie atmosphere reminiscent of Halloween Horror Nights.

In 2022, Sahara Traders received a major update after serving as a tribute store earlier that year. Now, props have been added to the location ahead of Halloween Horror Nights 33, including crates, memos, posters, newspaper clippings, and other items.

A wooden crate marked with "Ship to: Museum of Antiquities, From: Carey, Ohio" sits on a wooden floor, surrounded by other artifacts and documents from Sahara Traders.

A crate says “Ship To: Museum of Antiquities” and “From: Carey, Ohio.” Carey, Ohio is the location of many previous Halloween Horror Nights houses, including Welcome to SCarey: Horror in the Heartland. It is also the location of the Carey Drive-in theater that will be featured in the Slaughter Sinema 2 house this year.

The Carey Drive-in theater has been used as a location for many previous haunted houses and scare zones over the years, including the All Nite Die-In scare zone at Halloween Horror Nights 25. While Carey is a real place, nothing particularly scary has ever happened there.

Notice to security staff about increased work hours due to new acquisitions, including Sahara Traders. Lunches will be provided this month to be reimbursed later. From management.

On top of the crate, a clipboard holds a weathered memo written by management to security. The letter notifies security personnel that the scope of their work will be increased, but they will receive “free” lunches. Unfortunately for security, they will have to pay back the lunches in the future.

A metallic, cylindrical canister with a red top and "TS" logo on the label sits on a wooden surface near papers and a clipboard in dim lighting, evoking an atmosphere straight out of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.

Next to the clipboard is a silver and red “Tribute Store Comics” thermos. This item references the Tribute to Terror comic book and the Halloween Horror Nights 32 Tribute Store.

A worn-out Encyclopedia is among the new props. A newspaper clipping sits on top of it.

A close-up of an old book on a wooden shelf. The book has an image and text about Central Park being overrun by weeds and non-native plants, reminiscent of the eerie scenes you'd find at Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Florida.

The clipping warns that “Central Park Continues to be Overrun By Weeds and Other Non-Native Plant Life.” This clipping is certainly hinting at the Swamp of the Undead scare zone.

A wooden drawer is open to reveal a ledger page on top of which lies a small newspaper clipping with the headline "Museum Shipments of New Exhibit Met with Protestors" and "Beware the Bat" in bold text, an eerie hint at something you might encounter at Universal Studios Florida's Halloween Horror Nights.

Another newspaper clipping states “Museum Shipments of New Exhibit Met With Protestors.” In the image, a person holds up a sign that reads “Beware the Bat.” This clipping is a nod to “The Museum: Deadly Exhibits” at this year’s event.

A vintage poster featuring an eerie bat, surrounded by various antique items from Sahara Traders including a metal fan, small statues, and a wooden crate. Sparse foliage is visible in the dimly lit background, reminiscent of the spine-chilling ambiance of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.

The bat referenced in the newspaper clipping is on display in a “Museum of Antiquities” poster. Next to the bat statue, the phrase “This donated collection will be here for a limited time” appears in white. The statue’s eyes are glowing red.

Close-up of a newspaper titled "The Tribute Tribune" with a headline about an exhibit titled "Wonders of the Ancient Garden" and an image of the museum entrance, now also featuring exclusive coverage on Sahara Traders at Universal Studios Florida.

Another newspaper clipping continues to warn of mysterious happenings. The headline for this issue of the “Tribute Tribune” reads “Upcoming Exhibit Sparks Controversy.” It continues, “An unnatural artifact with a mysterious origin.”

A close-up of a newspaper article titled "Ancient Garden: An unnatural artifact with a mysterious origin," discussing the donation of an unknown artifact to the Museum of Antiquities in New York City, which spurred discussions reminiscent of treasures at Universal Studios Florida.

The first paragraph under the headlines describes the unnatural artifact in question. The bat statue is what has grabbed the writer’s attention, though other artifacts may also be cursed.

A wooden box labeled "Wonders of the Ancient Garden," secured with a rope, is surrounded by green foliage. This mysterious artifact, reminiscent of treasures from Sahara Traders, invites curiosity and wonder.

Another crate is wrapped in rope. Beneath the rope, we can make out “Wonders of the Ancient Garden.” Based on the previous newspaper clippings, this is likely holding the bat statue.

Shipping form listing three parcel items to the Museum of Antiquities, NYC, dated 08/92/24, including a stone bat with carvings and two small overlaid statues from Sahara Traders. The note reads, "DO NOT CONTACT.

A list of the packages consigned to “Wonders of the Ancient Garden Exhibit” describes a stone bat that may have glowing eyes.

A larger crate with “Wonders of the Ancient Garden” on the side is leaning against a wall.

A wooden crate labeled "CARGO" is stacked next to a rustic door and display posters; the surroundings, reminiscent of Sahara Traders at Universal Studios Florida, appear cluttered with trinkets and worn items.

Another cargo crate has been shipped for “Wonders of the Ancient Garden.”

A notice from Museum of Antiquities Management to staff about using a fan to combat summer heat, and a reminder to avoid leaving it on for prolonged periods—think Universal Studios Florida during Halloween Horror Nights—it’s thrilling, but energy conservation is still key.

Another notice asks all museum staff to refrain from leaving a gifted fan on for extended periods to avoid high electric bills.

uor usf sahara traders hhn33 hints 5772

The fan sits next to a miniature Egyptian artifact and a white statue that has been knocked over.

uor usf sahara traders hhn33 hints 0720

A memo sent to the loading dock from management describes deliveries that are damaged or missing parts. As an investigation is undertaken, workers have been told to keep working like normal.

A wooden crate labeled "FATHOMCORP" stands upright beside a pair of legs in shorts and shoes. Several paper notes and a sign reading "authentic jungle artifacts here" are scattered on the floor, reminiscent of Sahara Traders at Universal Studios Florida.

One crate has been labeled “FathomCorp.” This deep-sea mining company was the location of the “Depths of Fear” haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 29.

uor usf sahara traders hhn33 hints 5767

Another container is said to be carrying a “Jar of Souls”. The material is said to be ceramic and the origin of the item is unknown.

A glass and metal terrarium housing various green plants is placed near a stone structure and foliage, reminiscent of the immersive settings at Universal Studios Florida.

A terrarium full of plants is among the items in the collection.

A framed painting, leaning against a wooden surface, depicts two women in period attire. Surrounding the painting are green plant leaves, a newspaper from Universal Studios Florida, and a jacket draped over the frame.

A portrait of a woman posing next to a statue is the final addition to Sahara Traders.

‘Lion King’ Land Added to Disney Adventure World Model

The new “Lion King”-inspired Pride Lands have been added to the Disney Adventure World model on display at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Disney Adventure World Model with ‘The Lion King’

The model debuted on the first day of the event with some mysteriously empty plots of land. There are still some blank spots, but the Pride Lands fill in a big gap near World of Frozen.

A scale model of a theme park area featuring various buildings and attractions, including a large, beige, irregular-shaped building in the foreground surrounded by pathways and green spaces. The layout has been meticulously designed to ensure an auto draft of visitors through its vibrant attractions.

“The Lion King” land was announced during the Disney Experiences Showcase on Saturday night and added to the model on Sunday morning. It will include a log flume ride with Pride Rock atop a hill. The land will also have shopping, dining, and character meet and greets.

This model of the whole park shows the large show building behind Pride Rock, masked by a hillside façade. A separate, more detailed model of the Pride Lands was also unveiled.

A detailed scale model depicting a theme park with Auto Draft design features, including a large central water body, surrounding pathways, greenery, various buildings, and a mountain structure in the background.

Pride Lands is located at the edge of Adventure Bay, the focal point of the park’s major expansion. The park is currently named Walt Disney Studios Park but will become Disney Adventure World when Adventure Bay and World of Frozen open.

Disney did not give a timeframe for the opening of Pride Lands, but it will likely be after World of Frozen.

Adventure Bay will also include The Regal View Restaurant and Lounge, Raiponce Tangled Spin, gardens, and a new nighttime spectacular.

Hollywood Studios

Disney World had a bit of a bizzare week, as far as wait times go. Most were generally up at the resort, especially at EPCOT, but the Magic Kingdom saw some bizarre fluctuations. Is this an effect of the new Lighting Lane Multi Pass system? Possibly.

Should You Skip the Rotational Dining on the Disney Treasure Cruise Ship?

We’ve got a case of the Disney Treasure on the brain!

©Disney

And it makes sense because this brand-new ship coming to the Disney Cruise Line fleet has so many new things for us to experience, like the Aristocats-themed lounge and Haunted Mansion Parlor. We’re just beside ourselves with all the excitement. But before we get too far ahead, and since we’re talking about these lounges and the food they’re going to have there, it got us thinking about another experience that’s unique to the Disney Cruise Line — rotational dining. Let’s talk about it and see if you should skip it or not!

First things first, let’s break down what rotational dining is all about.

What is Rotational Dining?

On the Disney Treasure (and the other ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet), rotational dining means that each night of your cruise, you’ll rotate through three distinct, themed restaurants. What’s even cooler is that your servers rotate with you, which means you’ll get consistent, personalized service throughout your trip. The rotational dining restaurants on board the Treasure will be Plaza de Coco, Worlds of Marvel, and 1923.

©Disney

Pros of Rotational Dining

  • Variety. It Keeps Your Life Spicy! In our opinion, one of the biggest perks of rotational dining is the variety. So, instead of having to stick to one dining spot for the whole cruise, you get to experience three unique environments, each with its own vibe and menu. This means you won’t get bored with having the same dining options for the whole cruise.
  • Consistent Service. Having the same servers each night really can be a game-changer. Disney servers are already amazing but when they’re with you each night, they get to know your preferences, dietary restrictions, and even your kids’ names. This personal touch can make your dining experience feel extra special and hassle-free.
  • Themed Dining Experience. As we mentioned earlier, each restaurant has its own vibe which makes it more than just a meal. It’s an experience. As you can imagine, the themes and decor are meticulously crafted to immerse you in all that Disney magic which makes dinner an event to look forward to.
  • Kid-Friendly Fun. If you’re cruising with your little ones, you might find that rotational dining is a hit. The themes and interactive elements will keep the kids entertained, and there are kid-friendly menu options so even the pickiest eaters will find something they love.

©Disney

Cons of Rotational Dining

  • Set Dining Times. You’ll need to choose between early or late seating, which might not always align with your family’s natural dining rhythm. Also, if you’re enjoying a port day and get back late, it can be quite stressful rushing to make your dinner time.
  • Limited Flexibility. While the variety is great, you might find that you want to have a repeat visit to your new favorite restaurant, but since the rotation schedule is fixed, spontaneous cravings or special requests can be tricky to accommodate.
  • Crowded Dining Rooms. Rotational dining is definitely popular, which means the dining rooms can get crowded, so if you’re not a fan of noisy and bustling environments, this could be a dealbreaker. To be fair, Disney does a good job of managing the crowds, but it’s something to keep in mind.

©Disney

So, Should You Skip It?

Well, it depends. On one hand rotational dining on the Disney Treasure is a quintessential part of the Disney Cruise Line experience. It’ll give you variety, entertainment, and top-notch service. If you’re all about experiencing everything Disney has to offer, it’s definitely worth trying.

However, if you’re someone who values flexibility, prefers quieter dining settings, or just wants to avoid set schedules, you might want to consider skipping it. In this scenario, the good news is that Disney Treasure will offer a number of alternative dining options, from quick-service spots to adult-only restaurants where you can enjoy a more tranquil meal.

©Disney

At the end of the day, whether you choose rotational dining or not, the Disney Treasure will have something for you. It’s all about finding what works best for you and your travel companions.
