This weekend, Disney hosted the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California. The impressive fan convention brought news from across Disney’s variety of businesses, including films, television streaming, video games, and parks.
All that said, one of the big announcements to come out of Saturday night’s Horizons: Disney Experience Showcase panel was about video games. Yep, video games! Wait until you see Captain Hook, Maleficent, and Cruella de Vil in their EPIC Fortnite debut.

At D23, with millions of viewers watching within the game itself, Disney announced a slew of updates coming to Fortnite. In addition, “leaders from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios also shared their vision for what’s possible in the future entertainment universe being created by Epic Games in collaboration with Disney. “
First up, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee offered a “delightfully vile” sneak peek for fans of Disney Villains, as the evil Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and Captain Hook will become the first Disney Animation characters to join Fortnite later this fall. Pete Docter did the same for Pixar, sharing a glimpse at characters from The Incredibles, the first Pixar franchise to join the game this fall.

New Star Wars and Marvel characters are coming to the game as well. The former will see characters and items including “IG-11, Moff Gideon and all-new Grogu dynamic Back Bling arrive… next week!”
Marvel will also continue their relationship with the game, as “today’s crossover event started inside Fortnite with a thrilling in-game conclusion to the current season of Battle Royale, where the power of Pandora’s Box re-emerged as the catalyst for an on-stage world premiere of a new cinematic and gameplay trailer revealing the origins of a new upcoming Marvel-themed season, presented on-stage at D23 by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.”

Next week, on Aug. 16th, Fortnite Battle Royale’s Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom, featuring the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom will be released. “The new season will allow players from around the world to continue the Fortnite and Marvel story with new action-packed gameplay and locations to explore.”

We’re here at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California to bring YOU all the latest Disney news! From August 9th through the 11th, Disney is using the D23 expo to deliver information about the future of Disney entertainment, theme parks, and more. In fact, Disney just shared an exciting update about a popular attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
During its Horizons: D23 Disney Experiences Showcase Saturday evening, Disney revealed that a popular ride in Galaxy’s Edge will soon receive an update. Millenium Falcon Smuggler’s Run will include one of the most popular Star Wars characters, the Mandalorian!

This new Mandalorian AND Grogu storyline will coincide with the release of upcoming films in 2026! When Star Wars creative executive Dave Filoni joined Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro onstage to announce the update to the attraction, they also confirmed this would roll out to BOTH Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort and Disney World.

Lucasfilm’s team used Epic’s Unreal Engine to create several of the virtual sets for The Mandalorian. With Disney and Epic partnering together on this update, Epic’s Unreal Engine will help the Mandalorian and Grogu jump to lightspeed right before our eyes!

D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is really hitting us with all the big news today, and we can’t get enough of it!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
We’ve been hearing tons of news about what Disney has coming down the pipeline for entertainment, the Disney parks around the world, and so much more. And the weekend isn’t even close to being over! About a year ago, it was mentioned that with the re-theme of DinoLand U.S.A. into The Tropical Americas, the show housed inside the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom, It’s Tough to Be A Bug, would also be re-themed to a Zootopia show. It’s been radio silence since then, but we FINALLY have news to share!
Back in 2022, Disney briefly spoke about the possibility of bringing Zootopia to Animal Kingdom, and then in September 2023, it was officially confirmed! It was described as a new show for the Tree of Life that would be filled with humor and action, and Disney insinuated that it would be replacing It’s Tough to Be A Bug.

However, that wasn’t fully confirmed by Disney, and we’ve kinda been in limbo ever since… until NOW. The new show ‘Zootopia: Better Together’ will officially be coming to the Tree of Life theater in the winter of 2025!

It’s always sad to see something leave, but also exciting to see new attractions appearing in the parks. Disney also confirmed that Encanto and Indiana Jones will be part of the DinoLand, U.S.A. re-theme!

Marvel’s Disneyland footprint is EXPANDING!

This weekend, Disney hosted the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California. The major convention broke news from across Disney’s spectrum of offerings, including films, television streaming, video games, and parks.
One of the biggest announcements of the weekend came with the reveal of a BRAND NEW expansion to California Adventure’s Avengers Campus. Initially opened in 2021, the land marked the first full Marvel-themed area in a U.S. Disney park. Now, the land is about to make like Giant-Man and get LARGER.
With a little help from Deadpool himself, Disney announced TWO new Marvel attractions coming to the land.

First up is the LONG-AWAITED Avengers E-Ticket. Teased at events going back to 2019, the latest and final version of the attraction will be called Avengers Infinity Defense.

Disney describes the new attraction’s plot as such: “Technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds has gone missing, and King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc everywhere. Recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside the likes of big and small heroes. You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too.”

As if that wasn’t enough, a new Iron Man attraction is coming to the land, with Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Tony Stark!

In Stark Flight Lab, “you’re going to sit in two-person pods and deploy to a test station. Then a robot arm grabs your pod and starts whirling you around in a simulated flight.”

The new land will encompass all our nightmares and may make happily ever after feel like a distant dream, according to Disney. Josh D’Amaro, Disney Experiences Chairman, teased, “Be prepared, you poor unfortunate souls, it’s going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be.”
