PHOTO REPORT: Park Hopping 8/22/2024 (Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Checking on the Test Track Refurbishment, & More)

Today’s photo report features a whirlwind of park hopping madness that happened all before noon. I managed to rope drop Disney’s Animal Kingdom, pop over to EPCOT, and finish my morning with the droids of Hollywood since most of the stars have been booted.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Wilderness Explorers, are y’all ready for a wonderful morning in Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Mission: Find the Dug popcorn bucket from Disneyland’s Pixar Fest.

A parking lot sign with a black unicorn silhouette atop a pole labeled "UNICORN" against a cloudy sky backdrop. From Bryce's photo report.

I started my day by starting a new row in the Unicorn Lot of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. That meant I was as far away from Nana’s typical princess parking as possible.

After trekking into the park for “rope-drop,” aka park opening, I began the mission: to confirm whether the Dug popcorn bucket from Disneyland’s Pixar Fest, had made its way to Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, he was not here, but at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there are plenty of animals to keep you occupied.

Two images: Left shows various birds by a stream surrounded by lush vegetation. Right shows a close-up of a standing bird with black, white, and brown feathers on a sandy ground.

Right after you enter the park, there is a pond. The mornings are the best time to visit because the animals are eating breakfast and are most active. If you miss the morning rush, don’t worry, just try to catch a peek when the animals are eating lunch.

A child and an adult pose with a costumed character in front of a Wilderness Explorers Club House display, featuring a large sign and various props.

Since I couldn’t find the Dug popcorn bucket, I decided to go visit Russell and see if there was anything he could do to help. Unfortunately, Russell was busy meeting fans and then had to run off to collect another Wilderness Explorer badge. Rest assured, though, as a member myself, I am fully qualified to observe the wild all on my own.

Granted, these animals don’t have Dug’s speaking abilities, but they are special in their ways.

A small primate, possibly a tamarin, is perched on a branch inside an enclosure made of a wire mesh fence, with a wooden structure and greenery in the background.

If you find yourself over at Creature Comforts, the Starbucks location at Animal Kingdom, make sure you take a moment to check out the Cotton-Top Tamarin Monkeys. Earlier this year, the Disney Cotton-Top Tamarin family welcomed triplets! This is incredible as they are a critically endangered species.

A person in a green shirt and black boots walks in a lush, tropical environment with large tortoises on the ground nearby.

I also spotted an Animal Keeper feeding lettuce to our tortoise friends who seemed like they were not quite ready to start the day, opting for a little extra cuddle time. Looking at this picture now, though, I cannot stop laughing at the Ibis peeking through the bushes at the bottom right.

Composite image of a sign for "It's Tough to Be a Bug!" attraction, an "Exit Only" sign with a nearby turnstile, and a close-up of a green caterpillar figure amidst foliage.

Before leaving Animal Kingdom I had to stop by “It’s Tough to be a Bug!” out of pure nostalgia. During this year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Experience, Disney officially announced that this show will be replaced with “Zootopia Better Zoogether.” Are you excited for this update? I am cautiously optimistic.

View through a car windshield covered in raindrops, showing an empty parking lot and a cloudy sky.

I barely made it to my car before the sky began to fall. Welcome to Florida summer! Now, with my rain gear on, we are on our way to EPCOT!

EPCOT

Outdoor entrance area with people waiting in line at a checkpoint beneath a monorail track, with trees and overcast sky in the background. Trash cans and pathways are in the foreground.

When I got to EPCOT, I noticed that the light bar on the left side was still beaming red. Usually, these are only on at night as part of the Spaceship Earth light shows. The right side was not on and the color never changed.

EPCOT has been struggling with the newer light additions both in the front entrance and in the World Celebration Gardens. Hopefully, with a little testing and adjustment over time, they will have a better solution. I do like these effects when they are working correctly.

Two Chevrolet vehicles are parked in front of the "Test Track" attraction under construction, with a blue banner reading "Coming Soon" displayed on the fence.

Things have changed a lot from my last photo report over at Test Track. Now, not only the center top but the entire middle section of the canopy has been removed. In the concept art that Disney previously shared, there was no canopy and it seems like the general reaction to the future look of the ride’s exterior has been positive.

I was never a fan of the canopy in front of Test Track, but I do think there should be more canopies in other places around the parks. This would give guests more opportunity to enjoy the Florida sunshine or retreat to safety when the sky falls. I don’t think the entrance or exit of any attraction should have this, though, as it causes backups when it does rain.

People are gathered near large planetary sculptures at an outdoor exhibit with modern architectural elements in the background.

Over at Mission: SPACE, refurbishment continues, but the Earth was NOT SPINNING!!! We just spotted it spinning again a little over a month ago. Cast Members were unsure why it wasn’t working today, but it is such a cool and kinetic feature to this entrance. I will keep you posted if I catch Earth spinning… again.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

A four-panel collage showing a Spanish-style building exterior and three interior shots of a café. Menus feature fall-themed drinks like Pumpkin and Apple-flavored beverages. Customers are seen ordering inside.

When I made it to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the rain had really started to come down off and on, so what better place to make a pit stop than at Trolley Car Cafe, aka Starbucks? Call me basic all you’d like but both the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Iced Apple Crisp Cream Chai are officially available as of today, and I couldn’t be happier.

Visitors explore a themed indoor location with industrial decor, futuristic props, and red-lit surroundings. People are dressed in casual clothing, and some are wearing ponchos.

After the rain had slowed some, I made my way over to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to see if any new droids or droid parts were available. Unfortunately, those were not the droids I was looking for. Disneyland recently got the A-LT Droid with legs that fold out.

After speaking with one of the local Batuanns they assured me that Mubo, owner of the Droid Depot, was still programming these new droids for our Eastern rim.

A person wearing black waterproof shoe covers stands on a wet, rocky surface. The covers are wet and droplets of water are visible on their surface.

Here’s a WDWNT Pro Tip: Get shoe covers for rain! As someone in the parks just about every day, I consider these a must-have for our Florida parks. I am a total brat when my feet are soaked and cold, and these do a tremendous job of keeping most of the rain out. So if you also don’t like the feeling of wet socks on a summer day, I would highly recommend getting a pair.

A wet parking lot filled with various vehicles under a cloudy sky. People walk towards the background where tall palm trees and a distant building are visible.

Hope you enjoyed park hopping with me today, and no, I never got Nana’s princess parking at any of the three parks today… She must have a deal with Mickey.

What was your favorite park from the day? Let me know in the comments. I’ll see you in the next photo report!

OK. This Is Literally the Cutest Park Bag for Disney World

Park bags have definitely changed over the years.

Loungefly bags

And we don’t just mean style, although that has changed too. But the bags people take to the parks are so much more than just a way to carry all their essentials around!

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

The best part about shopping on Amazon is the free shipping you can get on any order with an Amazon Prime Membership. Don’t have one? Click below to start your free trial today!

Bags have become an accessory to elevate outfits and express oneself. With character-themed styles to trendy designs and so much more, there is no limit to what your bag can represent, especially when styling it along your park outfit. But if you’re not so sure what you’re looking for, we decided to check out some bags available to purchase online. We tested one that caught our eye to see if it could make a great bag to take on a trip to Disney!

We looked through Amazon and checked out several bags before spotting this adorable rattan crossbody purse and we could not miss out on getting it!

Rattan Purse

Although it’s advertised as a ‘Panda’ shaped bag, we definitely think it holds a strong resemblance to our favorite mouse pal, which makes it such a cute bag to take to any of the Disney parks and even Disney Springs. The bag is made out of rattan and sports a faux brown leather strap, giving us total fall vibes that is perfect for the season.

Featuring a compact internal pocket, suitable for storing any essentials safely, as well as a customizable strap for easy fitting, this bag has many features that make it great for all your travel needs. We are also a fan of how it’s made with vegan-friendly materials and that it’s handmade. We can honestly see this bag as part of a cute look for EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

Rattan Purse

Shop on Amazon

We definitely think this bag is worth the price, with its cute and unique design, different than anything we’ve seen sold at the parks. However, we do wish the bag was bigger so it could hold more of our essentials, but given its incredible quality, we have to say that this is a purchase we’re pretty satisfied with. This might be a great bag if you looking for something that’s stylish and lowkey and maybe more of an aesthetic accessory that compliments your outfit. It’s perfect if you’re just needing to bring a few smaller items to the parks. Or if it’s just in addition to another park bag!

Stay tuned as we bring you even more of our Disney park style tips!

NEWS: EPCOT Announces MYSTERIOUS Multi-Day Closure Days Before Food and Wine Festival Begins

Oh, Disney. You keep us on our toes! Here’s the thing about Disney World: it is in a constant state of change. Not a single day goes by without us spotting some kind of new treat, new merchandise collection, or even a new concrete update. Even Disney experts can’t get too comfortable in the parks — there’s a lot to keep up with, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

EPCOT

Now, let’s talk about the latest sneaky update we spotted in EPCOT. In case you haven’t heard, the 2024 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is starting SOON (August 29th, to be exact), and there are some new additions this year! While there’s a lot to look forward to at this year’s festival, there has been one update Disney hasn’t officially shared. Yet.

EPCOT fans have had one thing on their minds ever since Disney announced a new “dedicated Festival area” at CommuniCore Hall: Food and Wine Festival Seminars and Demonstrations. For context, EPCOT used to host expert-led wine, beer, or cheese seminars during the Food and Wine Festival, and sometimes, Disney even brought in celebrity chefs to host special meals, book signings, and cooking demonstrations. These types of special events haven’t happened since 2019, though, and we’ve missed them.

Demonstrations available in 2019

When Disney previously announced all the details about its latest addition to World Celebration, CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza, this area was described as the place that would bring EPCOT International Festivals “to the center of Walt Disney World.” Sounds like a great place to host celebrity-led demonstrations, right?

CommuniCore Hall

Around this same time, Disney opened a new Festival Favorites area in EPCOT’s CommuniCore Hall. This simple, quick-service window serves an assortment of fan-favorite Festival food and drink items. This seemed like a great first step to bring the EPCOT International Festivals to World Celebration, but Disney still has not made any official announcements about what else will be available at CommuniCore Hall. We’ll admit it. We were starting to lose hope. It seemed like there was a very slim chance that Food and Wine Festival Seminars and Demonstrations would return to EPCOT this year.

We miss you!

But wait! During our visit to EPCOT on August 22nd, we noticed a suspicious new closure. CommuniCore Hall was CLOSED during our visit, and according to a Cast Member, the closure was due to “festival prep.” Hmm…what KIND of festival prep?!

This spot was CLOSED!

The Cast Member hinted that the building would be closed until the Food and Wine Festival begins on August 29th, and the space would be used for demonstrations when it reopens. Note that Disney has NOT officially confirmed this update, so we’ll have to wait and see if they indeed are back for the 2024 season.

CommuniCore Hall is closed!

The good news is that both the Mickey & Friends meet-and-greet area and Festival Favorites are still open at this time.

Mickey’s Greeting Spot in EPCOT!

OK, we’ll admit it. This little closure REALLY got our hopes up. Could this mean that Disney has more plans for CommuniCore Hall after all? Is the building just closed to add new decorations? WE MUST KNOW! We’ll be sure to let you know the moment we get an official update.

CommuniCore Hall

In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

ALERT: Exclusive Perk Revealed for Three Disney World Hotels!

We have big news for our friends who love to stay on property at Disney World!

Swan and Dolphin

However, this news is particularly for those folks who want to stay on property but prefer to stay at the hotels that AREN’T owned and operated by Disney, one of the most popular being the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts. Despite the name, these hotels are owned by Marriott, not Disney! And while there are already tons of Disney World park perks for staying at these hotels, a NEW perk has been announced that coffee drinkers will love.

There are actually 3 hotels right in this area, which is within walking distance of EPCOT — we have the Swan hotel, Dolphin hotel, and the Swan Reserve. While the Swan and Dolphin hotels are quite similar in the type of stay you’ll have there, but there are different room types, the Swan Reserve is definitely more of a step up into more luxurious stays.

Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin

However, all THREE of these hotels now have a special new perk that guests will automatically receive when they book a stay here — guests can earn DOUBLE points at Starbucks locations around park property throughout the duration of your stay!

The Dolphin

There’s one Starbucks location in each Disney World park and 2 located in Disney Springs, so you can get your coffee fix AND earn double points, helping you reach additional rewards quicker! This is because Starbucks has recently partnered with Marriott to give all guests staying at Marriott hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy this special offer.

Starbucks Refresher

However, you will need to be both a Marriott Bonvoy and Starbucks member to take advantage of this offer, and you’ll need to link them together!

Learn more about this special offer here!

But that’s not the only special perk you’ll get when staying at the Swan, Dolphin, or Swan Reserve hotels! You’ll also receive:

  • Complimentary transportation to Disney World parks (and to the TTC for Magic Kingdom)
  • Early Entry into any theme park 30 minutes before regular opening time
  • Extended Evening Hours (receive an extra 2 hours of park time after park close at select parks on certain days)

New Batuu Harvest Festival Dishes Coming to Disneyland This Fall

Disney Eats has announced new and returning dishes coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland for the Batuu Harvest Festival.

New and Returning Dishes for Batuu Harvest Festival

A black skillet contains cooked chicken pieces, squash, and assorted vegetables. Part of the Batuu Harvest Festival 2024.

Returning is the Endorian Roasted Chicken Salad. This is marinated chicken with mixed greens, roasted seasonal vegetables, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, and green curry ranch. We reviewed a version of this salad back in 2021.

A plate with a brown bread roll, a green puree with sprinkled seeds, and a small serving of a mixed vegetable salad.

New items include the Surabat Valley Harvest Board. This torched sourdough bread features aji verde-infused pork spread and spicy salsa criolla.

A close-up of a vibrant green, melon-shaped bun placed on a dark slate surface.

For dessert is the new Jogan Seed Oi-Oi Puff. This is a green cream puff with green crunch and ube creme.

Disney did not indicate if these items would be available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Walt Disney World. They only included #Disneyland on their social media posts. These items will be available beginning on August 23, 2024.

Which item are you interested in trying? We’ll be reviewing all three this weekend, so stay tuned for our report.

Halloween Horror Nights 33 Photo Op and Bar Added to Universal Aventura Hotel

Universal Aventura Hotel is getting into the Halloween spirit with a new Halloween Horror Nights 33 photo op and bar decoration.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Aventura Hotel

A large illustrated display of a flying saucer abducting a retro TV set is set up in a modern indoor area next to a striped wall and some seating.

In the lobby of the hotel is the HHN photo op. The backdrop makes it look like guests are being beamed from a field up to an alien spaceship.

A hotel lobby display featuring an alien abduction scene with lights and two human figures being lifted. Two suitcases are visible in the foreground. Signage reads "Halloween Horror Nights" and "Aventura Hotel.

Details include the silhouettes of other guests being pulled into space. The spaceship is a large black piece with neon elements. A sign features the Halloween Horror Nights and Aventura Hotel wordmarks.

A silver suitcase is lodged between broken wooden fence pieces against a backdrop promoting Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights at Universal's Aventura Hotel.

Grass stuck to the backdrop adds dimension to the scene, as do the broken beams of a wooden fence. Stuck to the backdrop, appearing to float in the air, is a silver suitcase.

A close-up image of a gray hard-shell suitcase with a built-in combination lock showing the numbers 0022. The zip pulls are secured in the lock.

The suitcase’s combination lock is set to “666.”

A sign with the letters "HHN" in red and "SET 07" in white is displayed indoors, with a dining area visible in the background.

On the side of the photo op is “HHN Set 07.” It’s stamped on with red and white ink.

Modern indoor lounge area with pink and blue chairs, round tables, and a bar counter under an aircraft-themed sculpture. Large glass windows offer a view of greenery outside.

A new set piece has been erected at the hotel’s bar. Like the photo op, this gazebo-like piece is inspired by classic aliens.

A modern bar area with high stools and a counter is decorated with an inflatable arch featuring robots and futuristic elements. Large windows and ceiling lights are in the background.

There are three alien figures atop the set. One is at a circular console.

A statue of an alien with a large head and thin body stands inside a futuristic building. It is gesturing with one hand raised. The background has circular blue-lit designs and panels.

There are transparent panels around the aliens, each displaying different indecipherable diagrams.

A sculpture of an alien figure with an elongated head, standing on a circular balcony that is lit with blue lights indoors.

Wires wrap around the screens and across supports.

A display featuring neon-lit signs, an alien figure, and luggage against a mirrored backdrop in a futuristic, tech-themed setting.

More suitcases are among the aliens’ belongings.

Interior view of an industrial-looking bar area with ceiling hoses, closed shutters, and various equipment. The bar stools and tables are visible in the background.

Large tubes run along the underside of the set piece, above the bar. There are more transparent panels hanging below, too.

Halloween Horror Nights 33 begins on August 30. Check out our latest scare zone update.
