Pirates of the Caribbean Clock Tower Refurbishment Complete; Construction Continues on New Tavern

The refurbishment of the Pirates of the Caribbean clock tower, Torre del Cielo, has been completed. Meanwhile, construction on the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern continues.

Pirates of the Caribbean Clock Tower

People walk near the entrance of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction, which features a newly refurbished clock tower and lush tropical landscaping.

Scrims have been removed from around Torre del Cielo, as construction on the Pirates of the Caribbean clock tower has reached completion. Construction on the clock tower lasted about eight months.

The structure has been completely repainted. The tower previously was an off-white color, made to look dirty and weathered. The ledges of the structure were red. Now, the clock tower is brown and blends in with the brown exterior of Castillo del Morro, the building that houses Pirates of the Caribbean.

A cone-shaped tower with a red-tiled roof and golden top, reminiscent of a timeless clock tower, rises above a building with a similar red-tiled roof. A tree and a piece of technology are partially visible. The sky is clear and blue.

Another huge change comes to the roof of the building. Before the refurbishment, the shingles were blue. Now, they’re maroon, more closely matching the roofing of Castillo Del Morro.

A group of tourists gather near the entrance of a yellow and beige stucco building under a clear blue sky, surrounded by greenery and trees. A staff member in a red and yellow outfit stands nearby, pointing towards the new lounge that's part of the Clock Tower refurbishment.

A wall has been erected next to the tower, as the attraction’s queue has been moved partially outside due to construction on the other side of the building.

The above photograph shows what the clock tower and the space around it looked like before the refurbishment. Purposefully dirty, rain-streaked paint has been removed, as the clock tower receives a cleaner look.

Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern

Wheelchairs are parked outside a building with an arched entrance labeled "Castillo del Morro," reminiscent of the setting in Pirates of the Caribbean. People are entering through the archway.

When guests enter Castillo Del Morro, they’ll notice that walls now block part of the entrance into the building. These walls have been recently added, as construction for the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern continues.

A covered object in a dimly lit room with a wall lantern, a partially visible door, and a sign on the wall reading "JOIN THE CREW." The scene evokes an ambiance straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean.

The walls extend all the way to the exterior of the Pirates League. The front desk outside of the closed location is covered by a tarp.

A building with a terracotta roof and a palm tree in front, partially obstructed by construction walls, under a clear blue sky. Two people walk by, while the iconic clock tower from Pirates of the Caribbean peeks over the barriers on one side.

We had previously reported that construction walls were up inside of Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar. Now, the walls extend outside of the location, blocking the main entrance to the gift shop.

Guests can still exit the gift shop from the side. The construction walls in this area feature weather-beaten maps with red arrows pointing toward Adventureland.

Image showing an indoor construction site with exposed beams, a single hanging lantern, and partial wood paneling. An unfinished section is visible above a brown wooden door, hinting at the ongoing Clock Tower Refurbishment.

Inside the building, construction walls only partially hide the construction taking place. Beams along the ceiling are undergoing significant changes, as wood and red steel are exposed.

Construction has impacted operations in Adventureland for quite some time. In July, the Jack Sparrow character meet and greet was moved from near Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar to the outside of Tortuga Tavern. At the time, Tortuga Tavern was closed, but it has since reopened as Tortuga Treasures. While initial rumors indicated that the Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern would replace Tortuga Tavern, construction indicates that is no longer the case.

The new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern is scheduled to open in 2025.

NEWS: A Classic Magic Kingdom Ride Is Temporarily CLOSING on August 20th

So a LOT is going on in Magic Kingdom right now.

Rivers of America

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just opened recently, as did an all-new version of Country Bear Jamboree. Construction may begin soon on an all-new Cars land PLUS a new Villains land is on the way, too. Well, now, we’ve got another change to warn you about coming up soon: a classic Magic Kingdom attraction will temporarily close.

The Liberty Square Riverboat, which cruises the Rivers of America around Tom Sawyer Island is not showing any hours on the Disney World calendar as of of August 20th. This generally means that the ride will be closed. We’re seeing the same on August 21st and 22nd.

©Disney

The good news is that the website is showing hours for the Riverboat on August 23rd, so this is just a temporary closure. However, we’ll admit we got a little nervous. As we previously reported, the new Cars land announced for Magic Kingdom will be taking over the space occupied by the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. For a hot minute, we were wondering if construction would begin REALLY soon.

©Disney

So it’s likely this closure has nothing to do with the new land being built. We also do not know what will become of the Riverboat once construction begins on the new land: will it be removed entirely or relocated to serve another purpose? Now, we don’t know if Disney is taking any suggestions, but we think a restaurant on the Riverboat would be an EXCELLENT idea — maybe something New Orleans-themed to go along with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure? Magic Kingdom is in sore need of better food, after all…so we’re just throwing that idea out into the universe for consideration.

Riverboat

We’ll be keeping an eye out for more Disney World updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Festive Halloween Decor Added to Disneyland Resort

On a recent trip to Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park, we discovered that Halloween decor and theming have been added in various locations.

Halloween Decor at Disneyland Resort

Entrance to Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort is elaborately decorated with Halloween decor, featuring the character Oogie Boogie from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" amidst bat and pumpkin decorations. The festive decorations perfectly capture the spooky holiday spirit.

In our last update, we reported that Oogie Boogie had taken his place above the Disney California Adventure Park entrance. More festive decorations have now been added around him.

The bats near his arms now shoot out beyond the spires he sits between. Black hills have been installed beneath him. Jack-o’-lanterns with orange spooky faces have been added to the hills. Their stems are long and curling.

A silhouette of a menacing figure with a pointed hat and a grinning face, set against a light yellow circle and clear blue sky, framed by tree branches on the sides. This festive scene captures the whimsical Halloween decor reminiscent of Disneyland Resort.

On the other side of the moon, Oogie Boogie still smiles down at guests. However, a black feature has been added beneath him. In our last update, there was a metal frame below him.

A building at Disneyland Resort festooned with purple banners and bat cutouts, exuding festive Halloween decor. Palm trees sway in the background, and on the left side, a "Women" restroom sign adds to the charm.

Purple banners and bats have been added all around Buena Vista Street. The banners are present on multiple walls of the Information Station on Buena Vista Street. More flags have been hung from the balcony above the building’s first-floor roof.

Black bats have been added to the wall above the women’s restroom.

We found the same purple flags at the entrances of many buildings in Disney California Adventure. Here they are above the entrance of Los Feliz Five & Dime.

A store named "Oswald's Tires" with a yellow facade and red marquee sells merchandise with festive purple decorations hanging. People are walking by and standing near the entrance on a sunny day, making it look like you're at Disneyland Resort during Halloween Decor season.

They’ve also been added beneath the Oswald’s Tires marquee. These flags are in the same locations as they were last year.

At Elias & Co., banners hang beneath the “Elias & Company” marquee. There are also thin purple flags around the top of the circular building.

Flags have been added beneath the marquee at the other entrance of Elias & Co. Long banners hang on either side of the gold entryway. Bats sit atop each banner.

A festive street adorned with purple bat-themed banners, a lamp post, and signs for Buena Vista Street and Red Car Trolley. People are walking around, enjoying the Halloween decor, while buildings form an enchanting backdrop at Disneyland Resort.

Long purple banners have been hung along the lampposts on Buena Vista Street. Bats have been inserted beneath the lights on both sides of the structure.

A decorative archway with black bat accents spans over a walkway, flanked by trees and purple banners. People are walking underneath on a sunny day, enjoying the enchanting Halloween decor reminiscent of Disneyland Resort.

A large bat has been installed on the side of the bridge near Big Top Toys. Bats atop purple banners sit on either side of the larger bat. These banners are the same as those found at Elias & Co., which helps to illustrate the size of the central bat.

A market stall with customers standing outside, selling fruits, vegetables, and other goods. The building is decorated with purple banners and festive Halloween decor. A sign above reads "California Limited," giving the scene a whimsical feel akin to a Disneyland display.

Two more storefronts have been decorated with bats and flags. At Mortimer’s Market, flags have been installed beneath both of the store’s awnings. Bats have been placed on the tower next to the building.

A small purple banner stretches along the top of the Julius Katz & Sons marquee. A bat is stationed between windows above the entryway.

A building with a decorative balcony adorned with purple banners and bat motifs is shown against a clear blue sky, embracing festive Halloween decor reminiscent of Disneyland Resort.

Flags and bats also decorate the balconies up and down Buena Vista Street.

A white building with a prominent tower and decorative top stands tall at Disneyland Resort. The facade reads "Carthay Circle," and a banner says "All Hallow's Eve Celebration." Palm trees frame the scene, adding to the festive Halloween decor.

Bats fly out of the windows at the top of Carthay Circle Restaurant. The giant hanging banners that are normally found here have not yet been implemented.

A busy street scene with people walking, lined with palm trees, overhead power lines, and purple banners featuring a bat emblem adds to the Halloween decor. Various buildings and storefronts flank both sides of the street, reminiscent of the festive charm found at Disneyland Resort.

As we strolled down Hollywood Boulevard, we noticed purple flags and bats hanging off the sides of tall lampposts.

A colorful "Cars Land" sign at Disneyland Resort, adorned with festive garlands and Halloween decor, is beautifully situated among trees with people gathered around.

Cars Land is decorated for the festivities as well. The “Happy Haul-O-Ween from Cars Land” sign has been installed at the entrance of the land. Garland hangs from the top of the structure.

The letters in “Cars Land” show off festive imagery. A car wearing a hat rides a broomstick in front of a full moon.

A whimsical, witch-themed car statue with a tall black hat and license plates stands outdoors as part of the Halloween decor. Three people are nearby, including a child looking at the car. It feels like a scene straight out of the Disneyland Resort.

The witch scarecrow car is back in front of the sign for another year. The car has been created from stitched-together burlap. The witch’s smile is made from a strand of old license plates, while the eyes are old hubcaps.

The witch’s hair is made from shredded tires. A black and orange cone sits atop the “hair” serving as the witch’s hat.

Thematic movie posters have been added once again. One shows a group of cars fleeing monstrous contraptions in fear. The film is called “Attack of the Space Zombies From Planet B.” In “Hokus Spokus”, three cars ride broomsticks through the air in front of a full moon. Three cars in ghostly coloring sit in front of a large mansion in the “Haulin’ Mansion” poster. The final poster depicts three cars attempting to escape a UFO. The film is called “Escape to Hitch Mountain.”

Chains crisscross each other to form a spiderweb in front of Flo’s V8 Cafe.

A teal and pink retro-styled sign reads "Flo's Cafe" against a clear blue sky, adorned with charming Halloween decor, perfectly capturing the festive spirit of Disneyland Resort.

Chains have started to grow unruly dust on the neon Flo’s V8 Cafe sign.

An amusement park ride vehicle for people with mobility issues, situated in a concrete area adorned with Halloween decor at Disneyland Resort, featuring some visitors and a building in the background.

The car in front of the cafe has received a spidery update. Eight long legs shoot out from various places on the black vehicle. The car has received an extra set of eyes as well.

A black, futuristic-themed ride vehicle on display at Disneyland Resort, surrounded by visitors and a child in a stroller nearby, features Halloween decor for a festive touch.

There is one red spot on the back of the car. It sits between two rows of gears.

Outdoor seating area by a café with a display of stacked large faux motor oil cans as decor. People are sitting at tables, and a signboard promoting mobile order pickup is visible, reminiscent of the charming ambiance you'd find in Disneyland.

The motor oil cans near the entrance of the cafe have been painted orange and black to look like jack-o’-lanterns.

A large wooden sign with a cartoon car reads "TRUNK OR TREAT," featuring whimsical Halloween decor. Several lights are mounted on top of the sign, illuminating the scene. Trees and a building are in the background, reminiscent of Disneyland Resort. A person in a dark shirt walks by.

A wooden billboard now reads “Trunk or Treat.” Mater forms a sharp-toothed smile next to the orange words.

A theme park area with cone-shaped buildings and construction barriers, festive Halloween decor adding a spooky touch. Visitors walk along a path under a clear blue sky at the Disneyland Resort.

Each of the cones at the Cozy Cone Motel has received spooky faces. All have black eyes and mouths.

A particularly dismantled car has crashed into a tree. The grill has been damaged to make it look as though the car is screaming. Both headlights are shattered.

A car is decorated with a colorful Day of the Dead design, featuring a skull face with flowers for eyes. It’s parked in front of a building adorned with festive Halloween decor, including floral arrangements and tire planters, reminiscent of the vibrant atmosphere at Disneyland Resort.

The car in front of Ramone’s House of Body Art has been decorated for Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). The car has a white toothy smile and blue, green, yellow, purple, and pink designs. Two yellow and blue flowers sit above the car’s mouth. Its black eyes have blue and pink flowers inside of them.

The Stanley statue in front of Radiator Springs Town Hall is now wearing a bent cone in the shape of a witch’s hat.

Behind him, the entrances in front of the three garage doors have also received some festive decor. Traffic cones line the ground and the top of each entryway to look like pointed teeth.

Over at the entrance of Disneyland Park, the Mickey floral has received its seasonal update. Mickey now wears an orange mask.

A lit jack-o'-lantern sits on a windowsill behind lace curtains, adding to the Halloween decor above a sign with marquee lights that says "GIFTS" on the exterior of a building.

As guests walk down Main Street U.S.A., they should look up at the windows on the second floor of the buildings. Jack-o’-lanterns are now smiling down.

A festive storefront with a sign that reads "BOOKS" and a second-story window displaying a Jack-o'-lantern, reminiscent of the enchanting Halloween decor you might find at Disneyland Resort.

This pumpkin smiles out of a window on the second floor of Emporium.

A bakery storefront featuring three windows adorned with festive pumpkin decorations and curtains. The sign below reads "Fresh Baked Goods.

In a large window above a green “Fresh Baked Goods” marquee, three jack-o’-lanterns peer down at the patrons below them.

Two upper windows framed by brick walls display signs for businesses. One window features a carved pumpkin, adding a touch of Halloween decor. The lower portion reveals a partial view of a sign with "CARNATION" in bold letters, reminiscent of the festive charm found at Disneyland Resort.

A rather long pumpkin is stretched along most of the length of the “Farmers Land Co. Real Estate and Ins.” window.

A girl in a cap walks near a wooden cart decorated with festive Halloween decor, including pumpkin cutouts, autumn leaves, and a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Some decorations have been added in front of Westward Ho Trading Company in Frontierland. A cart is overflowing with gourds, apples, and festive foliage. A cat pops out of the top of one of three jack-o’-lanterns.

A person carrying a child stands next to a festive, pumpkin-headed scarecrow decoration surrounded by autumn leaves at an outdoor location, evoking the spirit of Disneyland Resort.

In another display, a scarecrow with a jack-o’-lantern head stands with its arms extended to its side. A child holds a jack-o’-lantern up to their face and looks at the scarecrow.

More Halloween decor should arrive at both Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park in the coming days. Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort officially begins on August 23. The date also marks the first night of the sold-out Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure.

Liberty Square Riverboat Briefly Closing This Week at Magic Kingdom

Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed for a few days in August at Magic Kingdom.

Liberty Square Riverboat Closure

Informational sign for the Liberty Square Riverboat at Magic Kingdom Park, describing it as a scenic steam-powered paddle wheeler ride suitable for all ages and heights, with additional policies and details.

Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed from August 20-22 at Magic Kingdom. This closure was not previously announced, and a reason for the attraction’s closure has not been given by Disney. At the moment, the attraction is not listed as “closed for refurbishment” from August 20-22 on the Disney World website.

A large, white, multi-deck paddle steamboat named "Liberty Belle" is sailing on a river, surrounded by trees and a mountain in the background. Passengers eagerly await the captain's daily recap of their scenic journey.

Liberty Square Riverboat is unlikely to be at Magic Kingdom much longer, due to the announcement of the new “Cars” themed land coming to Frontierland. Therefore, it’s likely that this closure is strictly for general maintenance and no major changes are coming, as the boat remains operational before its expected closure at some point in early 2025.

Permits for the new “Cars” land were filed in mid-August, shortly after the announcement at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. While we don’t know the exact closing date of Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and Liberty Square Riverboat, we do know that construction on the “Cars” land is set to begin in 2025.
