Federal Judge Grants Fubo Request to Block Disney, Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Bundle

Fubo’s request to have a joint venture sports bundle between Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery blocked has been granted by a federal judge due to antitrust laws, according to Deadline.

Federal Judge Blocks Disney Sports Bundle

In February, Fubo filed a lawsuit against Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery over their previously announced plans to launch a sports streaming service called Venu Sports. Fubo CEO David Gandler called the three companies a “sports cartel” shortly thereafter.

Fubo which provides a “sports-first” streaming service, has around 1.45 million subscribers. The company believes that the joint venture between Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery would lead to a monopoly, potentially knocking them out of the space.

U.S. District Judge Margaret Garnett issued a ruling after testimony from executives and elected to grant a preliminary injunction. Her full ruling can be found here.

In her ruling Garnett wrote the following:

The multi-year monopolistic runway they have created for themselves will provide powerful incentives to thwart competition and hike prices on both consumers and other distributors. But even if the JV defendants swear that such price-hiking and competition excluding will not actually occur (though, as discussed below, there is good reason to believe that it will), one purpose of antitrust injunctions is to prevent anticompetitive incentives from forming in the first place so that American consumers do not have to simply take their word for it and hope for the best.”

Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery issued a joint statement in response to Garnett’s ruling.

We respectfully disagree with the court’s ruling and are appealing it. We believe that Fubo’s arguments are wrong on the facts and the law, and that Fubo has failed to prove it is legally entitled to a preliminary injunction. Venu Sports is a pro-competitive option that aims to enhance consumer choice by reaching a segment of viewers who currently are not served by existing subscription options.”

A date has not yet been set for the main antitrust trial. Venu Sports was set to launch in the fall with an initial price of $43 per month. The price would have been $36 less than the cheapest Fubo plan available. Fubo claims that they had no choice but to raise prices after they were required to add additional non-sports channels to access sports offerings. They have stated that Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery were part of the reason why they had to have price hikes.

The Duke Returns to The Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World

On a recent trip to Magic Kingdom, we discovered that the Duke has returned to his table in the graveyard scene of The Haunted Mansion after a long absence.

A dimly lit scene features a ghostly figure in a hat sitting at a table with a candelabra amid tombstones, creating a spooky atmosphere.

A familiar spirit has returned to the graveyard scene of The Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom. The Duke animatronic is back at his usual table in front of an array of tombstones. He appears in ghostly blue and wears a top hat as he leans forward grasping the candelabra in front of him.

The Duke has been absent from the attraction for about one year. He is normally joined at the table by the Duchess, but she has still not returned after being removed from the attraction nearly one year ago.

The Haunted Mansion at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park has seen plenty of changes over the past year. In November of 2023, the Hatbox Ghost materialized in the Endless Hallway scene at Magic Kingdom. At Disneyland, Haunted Mansion Holiday is back for the Halloween-Christmas season, as construction continues on the grounds expansion around the attraction’s queue.

Are you excited to see the Duke back in his usual place in the graveyard? Let us know in the comments.

‘A Whole New Sound’ Disney Music Album Tracklist, Release Date Revealed

The full tracklist and release date has been released for Disney’s new pop-punk cover album, “A Whole New Sound.”

The full tracklist and release date for “A Whole New Sound” has been unveiled. The album will release on September 6 and vinyl versions of the record will be available starting October 4.

“A Whole New Sound” features iconic Disney songs reimagined by pop-punk pioneers, alternative rock hitmakers, and pop sensations. The album can now be pre-added on Apple Music. Originally fans were able to pre-save the album to Spotify, but the link is currently broken.

As of August 15, 2024, the New Found Glory “Part of Your World” cover is available on all streaming platforms. It is the album’s third single to be released following Simple Plan’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and Magnolia Park’s “I2I” cover.

New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert said the following in a press release about “Part of Your World.”

In approaching this song, I sat with the lyrics and melodies for a while. I realized that to make people feel what Ariel’s feeling, we needed to match the energy of the music with the rebellious thoughts of the song, along with her hope for adventure. When she sings about wanting to dance, the music is upbeat and fun, but when she expresses her longing for freedom, the rhythm drops so you really feel the pull of the heart. Our band’s biggest goal has always been to show and encourage young adults, the young at heart, and any person that has a dream but faces self-doubt that there is another world out there that will accept them for exactly who they are. To not be afraid to take the next step.

The “Part of Your World” music video is now available on YouTube. Check it out below.

“A Whole New Sound” will feature 12 songs. The full tracklist is below.

1.     “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid” by New Found Glory
2.     “Remember Me” from “Coco” by Mayday Parade
