Grab your apron — it’s time to get in the kitchen and get cooking!
We love recreating Disney recipes at home — it’s a great way for us to bring some of that Disney magic into our normal lives (especially if we make sure we’re wearing our favorite Disney apparel or using Disney kitchenware while we cook). If you love seeing what recipes Disney releases as much as we do, we’ve got great news — Disney has just released a new recipe, this time from the Aulani Resort in Hawaii!
Disney’s Aulani Resort is a standalone hotel located in Hawaii. It isn’t close to any Disney theme parks, but that’s okay — trust us when we say the beauty and amenities at the resort are more than enough to keep you occupied! (Although, if you’re looking for a Disney vacation where you can enjoy the theme parks, DON’T book a stay here!)
The food here is unlike what you’ll find at any other Disney hotels and resorts in the United States, but now you can bring some of it home with you! Disney has just released their recipe for the Mickey Mouse-shaped Musubi served at Ulu Cafe.
Here’s how you can make it at home — it serves up to 4 but can easily be doubled.
Ingredients
- 2 cups steamed sushi rice, at room temperature
- 4 ounces SPAM
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shoyu soy sauce
- 1 sheet nori, cut into 3/4-inch wide strips
- 4 teaspoons furikake seasoning
Instructions
- Fill a 3 1/2 inch Mickey Mouse-shaped cookie cutter with 1/2 cup cooked sushi rice. Carefully unmold rice onto a plate. Repeat with remaining rice. Set aside.
- Slice SPAM into 1/4-inch pieces. Heat sauté pan over medium heat for 5 minutes, until hot. Cook SPAM for 3 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove from pan. Add sugar and shoyu soy sauce in pan and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until slightly thickened.
- Return SPAM to shoyu-sugar sauce and cook for 4 minutes, turning after 2 minutes. Remove from pan and drain on paper towels.
- Place SPAM horizontally across Mickey Mouse-shaped rice. Wrap with nori strip. Garnish ears with furikake.
