The fourth installment in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise has seemingly found its director in Destin Daniel Cretton of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Destin Daniel Cretton Potentially Directing ‘Spider-Man 4’
After directing “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” Cretton was previously on board to direct “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” the fifth Marvel Studios Avengers film. After his exit from the film in 2023, and the film being officially renamed “Avengers: Doomsday” at San Diego Comic-Con in July, he will now reportedly be working on the fourth Marvel-Sony collaborated Spider-Man film.
Sony and Marvel had no comment to share with The Hollywood Reporter concerning the story.
Cretton’s other Marvel Studios project, “Wonder Man,” an upcoming Disney+ series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is currently in post-production with an unannounced release date. He also worked as an executive producer on the Disney+ TV series “American Born Chinese.”
Cretton will be the first new director to the series, with the previous three films directed by Jon Watts, who also created the upcoming “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” series on Disney+.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who previously penned the scripts for the first three films, will be returning for this installment.
A release date for the film has not been announced yet, but rumors suggest it may come out between “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Other projects the director has in the pipeline are a live-action adaptation of “Naruto” and a sequel to “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” though The Hollywood Reporter says “it is unclear how Spider-Man will affect those projects.”
