Disney Fantasy Skips Grand Cayman Stop Due to Hurricane Helene

The Disney Fantasy spent an extra day at sea this week due to Hurricane Helene moving through the Cayman Islands.

The Disney Cruise Line ship was scheduled to stop at Grand Cayman on Tuesday, September 24. Helene was a tropical storm at that time, pouring 4-8 inches of rain on the islands, with isolated totals of 12 inches. The local Port Authority announced they would be closed due to the weather that day and the Fantasy, which had left Cozumel the day before, gave the islands a wide berth as it remained at sea.

The ship continued to its next scheduled port: Falmouth. It arrived in Jamaica on Wednesday before continuing to Castaway Cay. It’s set to return to Port Canaveral on Saturday, hopefully without further delays due to the storm.

Hurricane Helene is currently a category 2 storm and is expected to make landfall as at least a category 3 on Thursday evening. It will hit the Florida panhandle but heavy rain and wind are expected throughout Florida. Walt Disney World is currently under Tornado Watch and Tropical Storm Warning. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and mini golf courses are closed on Thursday. Disney canceled Thursday’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and select tours.
