Disney to Stop Using Slack After Data Breach

The Walt Disney Company will transition away from using Salesforce’s Slack for internal communications after a hacking group leaked data from over 44 million messages.

Disney Transitioning Away From Slack

The Walt Disney Company logo in black text on a white background features "Disney" in a stylized cursive font, while "The" and "Company" are in a standard serif font. It's the perfect emblem to catch your eye during your daily recap of entertainment news.

Disney Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnson said in an internal memo that most of the company’s businesses would stop using Slack later this year. The memo said many teams had already started to transition to “streamlined enterprise-wide collaboration tools,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Where we have opportunities to leverage more integrated tools and platforms, we should,” said the memo.

Disney didn’t immediately reply to WSJ’s request for comment and Salesforce declined to comment.

Russia-based group Nullbulge hacked Disney’s Slack channels and leaked 1.1TB worth of files in July. The data breach included revenue details about Disney’s streaming services and Disney Genie+ (now known as Lightning Lane Multi Pass). It also contained the names and information of some Disneyland Resort guests and Disney Cruise Line crew members.
