While visiting Universal CityWalk Hollywood, we were able to go inside Sanrio Smile Shop and peek at the new menu for Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe before both locations officially open on September 6.
Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe and Sanrio Smile Shop are located directly next to each other at Universal CityWalk Hollywood.
Sanrio Smile Shop Soft Opening
Sanrio Smile Shop has three pink and white striped awnings that hang over the display windows and entrance to the store.
Next to the entrance is a pink bench in front of a pink mural. The mural is loaded with sweet treats and Hello Kitty and her friends. The characters pop out from behind a Universal Studios Hollywood marquee.
The inside of the store is loaded with merchandise and Hello Kitty-inspired displays. Above one wall display, the Sanrio Smile Shop logo appears in blue. Beneath it, Kiki, Lala, Keroppi, Chococat, Cinnamoroll, Badtz-Maru, and Tuxedo Sam peek out from behind tasty treats.
The wallpaper throughout the entire store is white and pink and features Hello Kitty, her friends, hearts, tasty treats, flowers, tea cups with hearts on them, and more.
The location also features a Hello Kitty and Friends mural and a section of merchandise that sits inside Hello Kitty’s head.
While there are plenty of characters on display inside the store, Hello Kitty remains the star of the show. Displays depicting her head host numerous pieces of merchandise including T-shirts, mugs, coasters, notebooks, water bottles, and more.
A Hello Kitty Loungefly backpack and Loungefly fanny pack are also available in the store. The backpack is red and features Hello Kitty riding her tricycle. The fanny pack is white and features Hello Kitty’s face and red bow.
There is also plenty of location-specific merchandise available as well. The T-shirt in the photo above has a donut, tea cup, and Hello Kitty on one side.
The other side shows Hello Kitty holding a huge snack shaped like her head. She stands above “Hello Kitty and Friends Cafe.”
More Universal Studios Hollywood exclusive merchandise includes T-shirts, mugs, and ornaments. Hello Kitty peeks out from behind the Universal Studios Hollywood marquee surrounded by treats in all of this merchandise.
Another location-specific piece of merchandise is a pink tumbler. The tumbler is covered in colorful sprinkles, and Hello Kitty peers out from behind the Universal Studios Holywood sign surrounded by tasty snacks.
We also found a pin where Hello Kitty is dressed up as Chucky. She wears Chucky’s classic blue overalls and has scars on her face.
Guests can also buy a Hello Kitty Chucky pillow. Hello Kitty’s face is scarred and her iconic bow has undergone some changes.
Other pins feature Hello Kitty and her friends reenacting scenes from E.T. and King Kong, and posing behind a car from Fast & Furious.
