New Disney Recycling Bins Arrive at Magic Kingdom

During a recent visit to Magic Kingdom, we noticed new recycling bins on Main Street, U.S.A.

New Disney Recycling Bins

People walking past a brown recycling bin and a man taking a photo of a globe balloon on a street lined with decorated shops. Two workers in uniforms stand nearby.

The old recycling bins, pictured above, have an opening with a circular center and two thin slots to the sides — perfect for a bottle, can, or paper. These bins are still the majority at Magic Kingdom.

A brown recycling bin and a trash can are placed side by side on a busy sidewalk in front of a bakery. People are walking and sitting in the background.

We spotted two new Disney recycling bins outside the Main Street Bakery (Starbucks). Like the other Main Street, U.S.A. trash cans and recycling bins, these are brown. They have the same white recycling logo on the front. The difference comes in the shape of the opening.

The shape now resembles a pair of glasses. It’s wider on the top than the bottom, with a divet where a nose might be.

Earlier this year, we spotted the first Central Florida Tourism Oversight District-branded trash cans at Disney Springs. In 2021, Disney introduced contactless trash cans but these didn’t remain permanent. The Transportation and Ticket Center got new trash cans and recycling bins this summer.

Disney’s trash cans have become an icon of the parks often featured on merchandise From 1995 to 2014, the moving and talking trash can PUSH entertained Magic Kingdom guests. Electric Umbrella at EPCOT also had a talking trash can that interacted with guests when they threw out trash. The trash can temporarily retired when Future World was gutted but reappeared at the Odyssey Pavilion in 2022.

Shanghai Disney Resort recently introduced a magical talking trash can named Xiaotui.
