NEW WARNING: You May Want to CHANGE Your Rope Drop Strategy at Magic Kingdom

If you haven’t been to Disney World in a few years, there are quite a few new rides to check out.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

From Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT (which opened in 2022) to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom (opened in 2024 and 2023, respectively), there are a couple of attractions you’ll want to add to your must-ride list. But if you’re hoping to check out TRON during your visit, we’ve got some important updates for you.

Disney World announced a few days ago that TRON Lightcycle / Run is getting rid of its virtual queue. Starting September 9th, the ride will have a standby line in addition to a Lightning Lane. So the only ways you’ll be able to ride are to wait in the standby line or purchase the Lightning Lane Single Pass.

TRON Lightning Lane

With the virtual queue disappearing, we’re expecting TRON to have some long wait times for a little while. Typically, our advice to avoid the longest wait times would be to try and get in line for a ride either at rope drop or at the end of the night. With TRON being located in Tomorrowland, you might think to try and check it out during Early Theme Park Entry, but we’ve got a warning.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

Currently, TRON Lightcycle / Run is not listed as one of the rides available during Early Theme Park Entry in Magic Kingdom. Many other attractions in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open at that time, but the Disney World website still lists TRON as opening with the regular park opening time. So if you’re a resort guest hoping to hop on the ride early in the AM, you might be out of luck.

Now, we still may recommend rope dropping TRON when it swaps to standby. Resort guests would be able to get into Tomorrowland 30 minutes early and wait near the ride for it to open, and then those staying off-site would be able to get in the queue once the park opens to everyone. We’ll have to wait and see what these wait times are like when the ride officially makes the switch!

We’ll be there on September 9th to keep an eye on this coaster and see what the crowds look like, so stay tuned to DFB for all the updates.
