Scrims Removed from City Hall Restrooms at Magic Kingdom Amid Hurricane Threats

The day before Hurricane Helene is expected to hit Florida the scrim has been removed from the scaffolding near the City Hall Restrooms in Magic Kingdom.

City Hall Restrooms Construction

Ornate building facade with a sign indicating City Hall Restrooms. A person is seen walking towards an entrance under a covered walkway, reminiscent of Magic Kingdom charm. Flowers and greenery are in the foreground.

Only a few days ago we reported at City Hall, that scrims had been added in the middle area between the men’s and women’s restrooms. Scrims were along the walls on each side of the building, running right up to the restroom entrances.

Scrims Removed

An outdoor area with scaffolding set up on a building under a clear blue sky. Several people are walking nearby. A sign indicates the entrance to restrooms.

Today, the day before Hurricane Helene is expected to affect Florida Disney has removed the scrim from the scaffolding at the top of the building. The scrim remains around scaffolding on the restroom wall pathways and the center.

Scaffolding is erected around part of a building with decorative architectural details. A couple of people are visible nearby on the ground.

Disney often makes adjustments in the park to protect their guests and property from the elements. This is likely in preparation for the expected high winds over the next few days. By removing the scrim, Disney allows air and small debris to fly through more freely and do less damage.

A building with scaffolding on the roof, indicating ongoing construction or renovation. A few people are present near the entrance, with a "Restrooms" sign visible on the right. A tree is partially visible on the left.

Already Disney has announced that Typhoon Lagoon will be temporarily closed tomorrow, September 26, 2024, due to Hurricane Helene. They have also canceled select tours and mini-golf games due to the Hurricane.

Most upsetting is the cancelation of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party tomorrow night, September 26, 2024.

A person in a white hat and blue shirt is standing near a building entrance with a "Restrooms" sign. The building is under construction with scaffolding on the roof. Nearby is a tree with flowers.

Stay tuned to our website for the most up-to-date changes made to the Walt Disney World parks in preparation for Hurricane Helene. This is the only Hurricane preparation we have seen in the parks other than the closures.

‘Hundreds’ of Layoffs Underway at The Walt Disney Company

Hundreds of employees are being laid off from The Walt Disney Company this week, according to Deadline.

walt disney company

Approximately 300 people are included in the ongoing wave of layoffs this week, all in domestic corporate positions. Disney Entertainment Television, which had its own round of layoffs this summer, is not affected, nor is the Parks and Experiences division.

Disney gave Deadline the following statement:

“We continually evaluate ways to invest in our businesses and more effectively manage our resources and costs to fuel the state-of-the-art creativity and innovation that consumers value and expect from Disney. As part of this ongoing optimization work, we have been reviewing the cost structure for our corporate-level functions and have determined there are ways for them to operate more efficiently.”

The news of these layoffs comes after Pixar laid off 14% of its staff and 150 Cast Members were laid off from the Disney Store this year. In 2023, The Walt Disney Company issued layoffs for approximately 7,000 Cast Members as part of a cost-cutting initiative.
