2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Will Start Even Earlier, Course Redirected

In an email to Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend runners, runDisney announced a change to the marathon’s course and start time.

Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2025 Updates

Banner promoting the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2024 featuring cartoon characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse running in athletic gear. Get ready for the excitement, course details, and start time announcements!

The Walt Disney World Marathon will now start at 4:30 a.m. instead of 5 a.m. Disney notes this allows them to make changes to the race course, including more running through theme parks.

The race will now start with World Showcase at EPCOT. In previous years, that’s where the race ended. Runners will then pass Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, running along the Seven Seas Lagoon, before entering Magic Kingdom. In Magic Kingdom, they will race through each land and through Cinderella Castle.

See the updated race course below.

This is a map of the Walt Disney World Full Marathon course, showing the route, mile markers, and key landmarks within the park.

Disney has made changes to race courses and start times before. During the last Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, the Half Marathon started early and was shortened last-minute due to severe weather.

The 2025 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is January 8 through 12, with the marathon on the last morning. As usual, the weekend also includes a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon. Runners can participate in multiple races to complete Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge and the Dopey Challenge. Check out the medals for each race.

How do you feel about this year’s marathon race course? Does an earlier start time affect your race plans or training in any way? Let us know in the comments or on social media.

Shanghai Disney Actively Combating Ticket Scalper Issues

Shanghai Disney Resort is adopting a new real-name ticketing policy this year to curb ticket scalping.

Shanghai Disneyland Ticketing Update

Enchanted Storybook Castle at Shanghai Disneyland

Currently, Shanghai Disney Resort allows guests to purchase a maximum of five tickets with one ID card.

Under the new policy, which is in line with recent government crackdowns on illegal commercial activities, each guest will be required to use their own official ID card to purchase a ticket. Each guest will be limited to buying only one ticket per day, either online or at the park. When entering Shanghai Disneyland, each guest must produce the ID card they used to buy their ticket. This policy will apply to special tickets.

The height requirement for child tickets will be removed, leaving only age as a determining factor. Children under the age of 3 receive free admission, while children from ages 3 to 11 on the day of their visit must get a child ticket.

Shanghai Disney Resort is located in Pudong, Shanghai, China. It opened in June 2016 as the sixth Disney Resort. It includes the Shanghai Disneyland theme park, Disneytown entertainment district, Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, and Toy Story Hotel. The first major expansion to the park was a Zootopia land, which opened in December 2023. The resort increased ticket prices prior to the land’s opening.

Hidden Details in NEW Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Rooms Revealed

Disney Vacation Club has released a video breaking down the hidden details of the sculpted manta ray that will hang in rooms of the new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Polynesian Village Resort Island Tower Manta Ray

The sculpted manta ray will hang above the dining table in the tower’s 1- and 2-bedroom villas. It’s designed by a tattoo artist with inspiration from Polynesia designs. It’s also reminiscent of Grandma Tala’s manta ray spirit in “Moana,” which appears in other artwork in the tower.

A detailed decorative design resembling an unfolded bat with intricate floral and geometric patterns carved into a light-colored surface, located in one of the Island Tower rooms at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

In the “Details We Dig” video below, Disney Vacation Club reveals these details of the sculpture:

  • An upside-down Mickey with a face inspired by a Polynesian wayfinder’s guiding star
  • Spearhead shapes representing strength and perseverance
  • A woven mat pattern representing foundation
  • The spearheads and woven mat pattern are at the top of the manta, representing the traits needed to navigate the journey of life
  • Open arm symbols represent the giving and sharing nature of the Polynesian people
  • Turtle shell scales represent the protection of the family
  • Family is also represented with symbols of people coming together
  • Fern leaves represent growth and new beginnings
  • Ocean waves represent the sea
  • Shark teeth also symbolize protection
  • The combination of the fern leaves, ocean waves, and shark teeth represent protection while traveling the earth and sea
  • A sea turtle in the center of the design also symbolizes family
  • A fish hook on the turtle’s back is a nod to Maui’s hook and represents the ability to bring food to family
  • Abstract symbols represent the eyes of ancestors watching over us
  • Polynesian leaves that must come together to weave a mat represent people coming together from around the world

The video also contains glimpses of other Island Tower artworks, including another piece featuring a manta ray, a piece featuring Te Fiti, and headboard art featuring dolphins and outriggers. In our most recent construction update about the Island Tower, we spotted a mural in one of the terrace gardens.

The Island Tower opens this December at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
