REVIEW: We Tried Every Item On New Menu at Pecos Bill Cafe in Magic Kingdom

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe at Magic Kingdom launched an updated menu, so we swung by the counter-service restaurant to try the new items.

A crowded restaurant interior with several patrons standing at counters marked for "Mobile Order Pick Up" under labeled screens. The room, reminiscent of Pecos Bill's era, has a rustic design with wooden beams and tile floors.

Pecos Bill is located in Frontierland. It offers mobile order via the My Disney Experience app. It’s open for lunch and dinner with the same menu.

Pecos Bill New Menu Review

An assortment of dishes on a round wooden table, including salads, nachos, a burger, fries, and Pecos Bill's signature dessert and sauces, arranged for an outdoor meal.

The menu has new entrees, sides, desserts, and create-your-own options. Guests can add Green Chili Pork, Coca-Cola Cherry Braised Beef, or Citrus-Chipotle Chicken to one of four bases. They can double the protein or add a second protein for $0.50.

Steamed Tamale – $12.99

Steamed Green Chili-Cheese Tamale with Stewed Pinto Beans, Queso Fresco, and Pico de Gallo

A hand holds a bowl featuring rice, beans, shredded meat, pico de gallo, cheese, and a piece of yellow plantain reminiscent of something Pecos Bill might enjoy on his adventures.

We added Green Chili Pork to our Steamed Tamale. The pork is juicy although we would maybe pick chicken for this dish in the future.

A close-up view of a plate containing rice, shredded meat, tomato salsa, crumbled cheese, and cornbread that looks like it could be a feast fit for Pecos Bill himself.

The outside of the tamale is chalky but the inside is fine. There isn’t a lot of the queso fresco. But it’s pretty good, especially for Magic Kingdom counter-service.

Nacho Bowl – $12.99

House-fried Corn Tortilla Chips smothered with Stewed Pinto Beans, Chipotle Queso, and Pico de Gallo

A plate of nachos topped with cheese, diced tomatoes, onions, and herbs is held outdoors near wooden tables and stone walls, evoking the rustic charm of Pecos Bill's legendary frontier.

We added a double portion of Coca-Cola Cherry Braised Beef to the Nacho Bowl for $0.50. There’s a sweetness to the beef. It’s tender, juicy, and kind of stewy, which feels right for a nacho bowl. The dish has a kick to it that seems to be from the queso. It’s kind of basic but we liked it.

Southwest Caesar Salad – $12.99

Romaine tossed in Creamy Salsa Verde Dressing, Pepitas, Queso Fresco, Pico de Gallo, and Tortilla Strips

A hand holds a bowl containing a Pecos Bill salad with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, crumbled cheese, grilled chicken, and crispy tortilla strips.

We got the salad with Citrus-Chipotle Chicken. They are big pieces of tender white meat. The chipotle flavor isn’t profound but it’s there. As for the salad, we think it needs more dressing. The lettuce was a little soggy. It’s edible but not what we would choose.

Rice Bowl – $12.99

Pinto Beans, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Cowboy Caviar, and Queso Fresco

A hand holding a bowl of rice topped with shredded meat, black beans, corn, diced tomatoes, crumbled cheese, and herbs; it looks like a meal Pecos Bill might enjoy after a long day on the range.

We also added Green Chili Pork to the Rice Bowl. It’s similar to the tamale dish, just without the tamale and with more rice. It’s all the same notes and flavors. The rice is good.

Grilled Masa Flatbread – $10.49

Grilled Corn Flatbread topped with Sweet Potatoes, Stewed Pinto Beans, Plant-based Pepper Jack “Cheese,” Shredded Lettuce, Pico de Gallo, and Plant-based Lime Crema

A hand holding a cardboard tray containing a Pecos Bill-inspired flatbread topped with beans, diced tomatoes, lettuce, and white sauce.

This is vegan but you can add any of the proteins if you want. It’s cut in half like you’re gonna pick it up, but you can’t. It cuts easily, though. It reminds us of a Crunchwrap from Taco Bell. It has fantastic seasoning with a lot of kick and flavor. The corn base is surprisingly soft and works well with everything else. It’s huge so we recommend sharing.

Double Chili con Queso Burger – $16.49

Two Flame-broiled All-Beef Patties topped with Chili con Carne, Chipotle Queso, and Corn Chips

A hand holding a colorful paper plate with a Pecos Bill-style hamburger topped with crispy onions and a side of seasoned fries.

This is spicier than other Magic Kingdom counter-service burgers. The patty itself isn’t great. It’s overcooked but the seasoning and toppings fix it, making it the best quick-service burger in the park.

A Pecos Bill burger topped with cheese sauce, chili, and crispy fried onions, served on a colorful paper plate with a side of seasoned fries.

You can choose rice or the new Barbecue-Cheddar Seasoned Fries as the burger’s side. The fries are also available to purchase separately.

Barbecue-Cheddar Seasoned Fries – $4.99

A colorful paper bowl filled with French fries is placed on a wooden surface, accompanied by a small black container of creamy dip and a sealed packet of guacamole, perfect for enjoying while reading tales of Pecos Bill.

The fry itself isn’t anything special but the seasoning is amazing. There’s a sweetness to them that balances the spiciness. They’re great with the queso dip.

Guacamole – $2.50

A sealed container of guacamole with a detailed label listing ingredients and a "Product of Mexico" note, next to a colorful, patterned plate edge that would make Pecos Bill proud. Net weight is 2 oz (56g).

We added the guacamole to the rice bowl and hated it. It’s the worst guacamole we’ve ever had.

Queso Chipotle – $1

A black plastic container filled with a creamy beige dipping sauce is on a brown surface, reminiscent of what you might find at Pecos Bill's. Part of a colorful plate with wedge fries is visible in the bottom right corner.

We also tried the queso chipotle with the rice bowl and it was fantastic. It’s the same spicy queso from the nacho bowl and burger. Never pick the guac, always pick the cheese.

Sweet Corn Mousse – $6.29

White Chocolate and Raspberry Powder

A hand holding a black plate with a grilled corn on the cob drizzled with a white sauce and sprinkled with red seasoning, reminiscent of Pecos Bill's legendary campfire meals. Other dishes are blurred in the background.

This is white chocolate mousse shaped and decorated to look like street corn. There are some hidden chunks of corn, too. It’s surprisingly fantastic. It tastes like sweet corn but with extra dessert sweetness. Almost anyone will like this.

Rating out of 7: 7

Mexican Chocolate and Horchata Verrine – $5.49

A hand holding a dessert cup with layers of chocolate and vanilla cream topped with whipped cream and chocolate chips against a backdrop of outdoor picnic tables, reminiscent of a scene straight from Pecos Bill's adventures.

We thought this would be like regular chocolate pudding but it’s richer with that Mexican chocolate flavor. We love the horchata mixed with the chocolate. It has a nice crunchy texture. The corn is more Instagrammable but this is also excellent.

Overall

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is still the best counter-service restaurant at Magic Kingdom, and the new menu widens the gap. The beef, chicken, burger, and fries are improvements. It’s also highly customizable. We’ll be coming back to get the flatbread, fries, and mousse. Sure, it isn’t a cheap meal, but it’s good for Magic Kingdom counter-service.
