Construction of the gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is almost complete.
Grand Floridian Gingerbread House
Since work began just a few days ago, the house’s entire framework has gone up and is almost completely covered in gingerbread shingles and siding. Only one side of the tower roof is not covered. For comparison, below is a side-by-side of the house currently and how it looked upon completion last year.
At this point, the bakery team will focus on details like icing flowers and pastry Santa Claus figures. The house isn’t always decorated exactly the same and there already appear to be some differences between the 2023 and 2024 houses. For example, this year there are gingerbread Mickey icons on the decorative fascia of the gable roof. And last year, the walls around the bay windows on the right were not covered in gingerbread.
The house isn’t life-size, but it’s big enough for people to enter. A door is hidden on one side, behind two windows. Cast Members will sell baked goods (including gingerbread shingles) and holiday merchandise out of the display.
The open window on the back with a counter is where guests will purchase items. The TV screen mounted on the right usually displays some of the items available as well as information about the gingerbread house.
We expect the Grand Floridian gingerbread house to be finished this weekend but an opening date has not been announced. Last year, the house officially opened on November 8. Holidays at Walt Disney World Resort officially begin on November 12, 2024. This is the 25th anniversary of the Grand Floridian gingerbread house.
Disney has confirmed multiple resort hotels will have gingerbread displays again this year. Last year’s lineup included a new gingerbread lighthouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, a DuckTales World Showcase Adventure-inspired carousel at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, a Disney100 castle at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, a Disney’s BoardWalk Deli display, a life-size baby giraffe and zebra at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and The American Adventure displays in EPCOT.
