Jim Henson’s Family Refutes Sale of Historic Lot to Scientology Church

The Henson family has refuted the rumors that the historic Charlie Chaplin lot, formerly home to the Muppet Studios, has been sold to the Church of Scientology.

The estate made the following statement to Discussing Film in response to their original report:

“We are not in any business dealings with the Church of Scientology, and that organization is not in consideration as a potential buyer of the property.”

The statement debunks the rumors and goes as far as to make it clear that they are not considering the Church as a buyer.

The Jim Henson Company Lot was originally established by actor Charlie Chaplin in 1919 and bought by the Jim Henson Company in 1999. The family is selling the lot for the purpose of consolidating the studio and the Creature Shop on the same property, which isn’t possible currently due to the size of the lot.
