Don’t forget to eat before you fly! There’s nothing worse than a lousy airplane meal, right?
Luckily, a famous chef is here to help. A legendary, Michelin Star-Awarded chef — who has a longtime presence at Disney Springs — is branching out into the burgeoning airport restaurant space with a BRAND-NEW restaurant at one of the United States’ busiest transport hubs.
Legendary chef José Andrés has teamed with Capital One to open up a new, potentially game-changing lounge at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.
The Capital One Landing is scheduled to open soon. According to the New York Times, the lounge will feature a “globally influenced” menu that was “revised eight times to consider seasonality and the logistics unique to an airport.” Expect tapas, like crisp pan con tomate and gambas al ajillo, beers imported from Spain, caviar cones, and Basque cheesecake.
The Capital One Landing will use an interesting model, combining elements of a sit-down restaurant, a quick-service dining location, and a traditional airport lounge. According to the New York Times, “A grab-and-go section and a separate seated dining area will both be open to the public.” Here’s where things get interesting. To sit down and order food in the dining area, you will pay a flat fee, similar to how people pay in lounges, rather than per dish. Venture and Spark Miles cardholders will pay $45, and Venture X and Venture X Business cardholders will have an even bigger perk: unlimited complimentary access and free entry for one guest per visit. All other Capital One cardholders and non-cardholders will pay $90 per visit. There will also be a time limit.
During an interview promoting the concept, Aandrés — who owns Jaleo at Disney Springs — emphasized the quality of the Landing’s offerings and the freshness of the food. He explained “I want people to feel like they’re coming to a place that somebody has put in love and care.” He went on to say, “I have been waiting for this moment for many years to have my food in an airport. I didn’t start thinking about this yesterday, but in the end I always hesitated, like all the other chefs before me who have already tried this arena, between all of us, we keep pushing about how we can get a better experience in the airport in America.”
