Disney Considering EA CEO and Other External Candidates to Succeed Bob Iger

According to the Wall Street Journal, Disney is exploring outsiders as potential CEO candidates to replace Bob Iger.

Disney Considering External CEO Candidates

Two men in business attire are shown side by side; one is wearing a dark jacket over a white shirt, and the other is in a suit with a light blue shirt and patterned tie.

These candidates reportedly include Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts (EA). WSJ’s sources said recruiting firm Heidrick & Struggles has identified two other external candidates.

Previously, reports indicated Disney had narrowed the search down to four internal candidates: Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden; Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Josh D’Amaro; Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Alan Bergman; and Chairman of ESPN and Sports Content, Jimmy Pitaro.

Wilson has been CEO of EA since 2013 and chairman since 2021. In 2018, he interviewed for the position of ESPN chairman before it went to Pitaro. He reportedly talked about selling EA to Disney when Bob Chapek was CEO. There have also been talks of a partnership between EA and ESPN.

Iger has also thought about appointing two CEOs. Sources say he spoke to Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, who shares the position with Greg Peters, about the arrangement.

The search is led by James Gorman, former Morgan Stanley CEO and incoming chairman of the Disney board. Disney expects to announce Iger’s successor in early 2026, the year Iger’s contract ends.
