This year’s gingerbread house display is under construction at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
Grand Californian Gingerbread House Construction
The basic structure of the “house” is in place atop a platform in the Grand Californian’s lobby. As in previous years, the display is inspired by the exterior and lobby of the hotel. Details are not yet complete, however.
White icing lines the rooftops and walls. There are circular peppermints above the windows, but the windows themselves are currently bare. The front of the display is closer to completion, with crisscrossing lines of icing between green striped columns.
In the center is a fireplace, with a small screen showing a flickering fire. Three stockings hang above the miniature fireplace. There are stained glass windows to the sides.
Fewer details are complete on the back of the house, although its glowing windows are in place.
The house is set to be complete on November 22 and will feature Chip ‘n’ Dale in their pajamas from Mickey’s Holiday Pajama Party at Storytellers Cafe.
For comparison, above is what the gingerbread house looked like last year. Some of the details are different but the house still features the same shape, a fireplace, and stockings.
A sign already in place explains that the “Grand” Gingerbread House is 7 feet tall and 12 feet wide. It’s made with 600 pounds of gingerbread, 600 pounds of powdered sugar, 250 pounds of fondant, 1,152 eggs, and 1 pound of glitter. There will be 25 hidden Mickeys.
The Grand Californian Holiday Cart is open and serving these sweet treats through January 5:
- Gingerbread Cookie
- Christmas Cookie
- Mickey-shaped Poinsettia Cookie
- Holiday Crisped Rice Treat
- Sweet Potato Loaf Treat
- Holiday Cinnamon Bun
- Macaron Box

- Eggnog (Also available with Bailey’s Original Irish Cream Liqueur)
