VIDEO: Disney Treasure Celebrates Christening Ceremony With Drone Show Featuring Haunted Mansion, Moana, & More

The Disney Treasure christening took place in New York on Tuesday evening, a month before the ship’s maiden voyage. The ceremony included a drone show above the ship.

Jordin Sparks performed the Treasure’s theme song, “Live the Adventure.”

Madame Leota and the Hitchhiking Ghosts appeared to represent the Haunted Mansion Parlor.

A “Coco” segment featured music from the film including “Remember Me” and “The World es Mi Familia.” The Treasure has a dinner show inspired by the movie called Plaza de Coco.

A medley of Moana songs played to the drone display in honor of the new Broadway-style performance debuting on the Treasure: “Disney The Tale of Moana.”

A cruise ship is illuminated at night on the water during the Disney Treasure christening. Above it, a formation of lights resembling a bottle shines brilliantly in the night sky.

Christening is a maritime tradition of blessing a ship to bring good luck to its crew and guests. It usually involves breaking a champagne bottle on the ship’s bow, along with speeches and performances. The show included a symbolic breaking of the bottle with drones while the ship’s godparents performed the blessing.

Disney Cast Members were named the godparents of the Disney Treasure. Godparents are another long-standing tradition, with previous Disney Cruise Line godparents including Patricia Disney (Disney Magic), Tinker Bell (Disney Wonder), Jennifer Hudson (Disney Dream), Mariah Carey (Disney Fantasy), and all Make-A-Wish children (Disney Wish).

The cruise ship is illuminated at night, with the words "Disney Treasure" formed by lights in the sky above it, celebrating its christening.

The christening was live-streamed on the Disney Parks Blog at 8 p.m. ET on November 19. Watch the video on demand below.

The Disney Treasure arrived at Port Canaveral earlier this month before going to New York for the christening. The Florida port will be its new home, with the maiden voyage leaving on December 21. The Treasure left the Meyer Werft shipyard where it was constructed in September and completed trials in the North Sea before Disney officially took ownership of the vessel at a delivery ceremony in the Netherlands.

The Disney Treasure has the same layout as the Disney Wish and is considered a Wish-class ship. Disney Cruise Line is planning seven more ships set to join the fleet by 2031, including the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure. The Treasure’s brand-new offerings include the first Haunted Mansion Parlor, the “Tale of Moana” stage show, the Plaza de Coco restaurant, and an “Aladdin”-inspired Grand Hall.
