Disney is testing a new AI self-checkout system at End Zone Food Court, located at Disney’s All-Star Resort.

Disney Testing AI Self Checkout

According to WDWMagic, this test hopes to streamline the guest process of ordering and paying for food.

With this system, guests can simply take their tray of food, place it on the designated checkout counter beneath a camera, and the items will be automatically detected through AI. Items do have to be separated so they can be properly identified.

After that, guests will get the total cost of their meal on the Elo point of sale system next to the scanner, see a list of their items identified on the tray, and be asked to pay.

Accepted payment options for this trial include MagicBands, credit and debit cards, and mobile payment options like Apple Pay. No cash option is available, however.

Currently, Disney offers mobile ordering for food at multiple locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort, and mobile checkout for merchandise at select stores. It’s possible we could see this new AI self checkout system make its way to other locations around property if the test is successful.

What do you think of Disney using AI to streamline the guest experience at Walt Disney World? Is this something you’d like to see expanded to other checkout options around property? Share your thoughts with us in the comments and on social media.
