During “The Mandalorian” panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm confirmed that Ryan Gosling would star in Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars” film and announced its title.
WDWNT reported on the Gosling rumor in January. Gosling appeared on stage at Star Wars Celebration Japan to confirm his casting (via Star Wars Holocron / @sw_holocron on X).
It was then announced that the film will be called “Star Wars: Starfighter” and will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027. It was previously speculated that it may be released in December 2027.
The film’s screenplay is by Jonathan Trooper. It takes place a few years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” but is a standalone story with new characters. It will be the first “Star Wars” film in theaters after “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which releases on May 22, 2026.
