A Figment animatronic on Journey Into Imagination in EPCOT has been temporarily replaced by one of the original 1983 ride’s animatronics.

Figment Temporarily Replaced

This is the second Figment animatronic on the ride, located on a platform next to the entrance to the touch and taste labs. Reportedly, the regular animatronic is receiving refurbishment, so the 1983 Figment has taken its place.

This “new” Figment animatronic has been going viral because of how different it looks from its more modern counterparts. Above is the 1983 animatronic side by side with the regular animatronic. The 1983 figure has considerably less movement and looks “chubbier” than the regular animatronic. He’s still wearing his yellow sweater, although it doesn’t seem to fit quite right.

This animatronic was in the scary stories section of the original Journey Into Imagination. It didn’t originally wear the sweater and wasn’t required to move much. It just held a series of blocks that would spin to read either “CAT” or “BAT.” Its hands are still in position as though it should be holding something.
