Just three months after announcing a three-year partnership with Disney, OpenAI is now discontinuing its Sora AI video platform.

In a statement today, March 24, 2026, OpenAI announced that they are done with Sora. “We’re saying goodbye to Sora. To everyone who created with Sora, shared it, and built a community around it: thank you. What you made with Sora mattered, and we know this news is disappointing,” the statement noted. “We’ll share more soon, including timelines for the app and API and details on preserving your work.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is discontinuing all video AI model efforts with this shutdown.

When the announcement was made that Disney was partnering with Sora, we reported that Disney was to make a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI. As part of the deal, Sora users would be able to access over 200 characters from the Disney canon. That included Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars.

It is unclear what this means for the future of Disney and user-generated AI videos.
